Top Tree Removal related questions

What are the benefits of hiring a tree removal service over doing it yourself?

Tree removal services have specialised equipment and safety training to ensure both people and property are protected during any tree maintenance or removal. Always hire a professional tree removal services for maximum safety and care of any surrounding plants.

Are there any laws that affect tree removal?

There are often council regulations about removing trees from your property, and many removals will require council approval first. Councils will usually need an arborist report to determine whether to grant you an approval.

What will happen to my tree after it’s removed?

Tree trunks and branches will generally be fed through a chipper or mulcher on-site for easy removal. The stump of your tree will remain unless you arrange for stump grinding or removal, and this should eventually die off.

How will my tree removalist protect surrounding property from falling branches and trunks?

Many tree removalists are also arborists. They can complete a comprehensive assessment of your property, including your trees’ proximity to your house, shed, and other structures They’ll recommend steps to ensure people and property remain safe at all times, including restricted access, barriers, and other measures.

Do tree removalists need any special certifications or qualifications?

There are no qualifications required to be a tree removalist, however an arborist (who usually works alongside tree removers) will have specialised qualifications. However, the industry is heavily and your tree removalist should have appropriate licensing and insurance.

How much does tree removal cost?

You can expect to pay between $100-$275 for tree removal on Airtasker. This price may vary depending on the size of the tree, its location, the complexity of the removal, and any specific services you require.

Do I need a specialist licence for tree removal?

For certain types of tasks, you may need to enquire as to what specialist licenses may be required to undertake your task as this can vary. Please make sure that you confirm that a Tasker has the relevant tree removal licence and insurance before accepting an offer.

What does a tree removal service include?

Tree removalists are experienced in a range of services relating to removing and maintaining trees. Services they can help with include:

Tree removal

Need gum tree removal, palm tree removal, or another type of tree moved or removed? Tree removal is often considered a last resort in tree maintenance, and will usually only be done if other maintenance options aren’t suitable. A tree may need to be removed if it’s causing safety concerns, is diseased or dying, or causing damage to structures or underground pipes on your property. Your tree removalist may use a truck, a cherry picker, ladders, chainsaws, and even experienced tree climbers to help take the tree down and remove it from your yard.

Tree lopping

Tree lopping removes parts of a tree rather than removing the whole tree. In some cases, there may be large sections of the tree that have been damaged in a storm or bad weather. Or perhaps the tree is growing in a way that will obstruct power lines and other services. Most tree loppers will use a ladder, a chainsaw, and a pruning saw to remove the parts needed, before mulching or removing the leaves and branches. Note that it’s important to seek specialist advice and only hire an experienced tree lopper as incorrect tree lopping can cause an otherwise healthy tree to die.

Pruning and maintenance

Gum trees and eucalyptus trees, as well as other tall trees often need pruning and maintenance to ensure they remain at a manageable and safe height. When they’re getting close to roofs and gutters (but especially power lines), it’s time to engage an expert to trim them. Trimming is also important to remove any diseased or dying branches to make sure they don’t fall and cause injury. Depending on the tree and branch size, your tree pruner will use either an electric chainsaw or a pruning saw, along with secateurs to trim back branches.

Stump grinding

Stump grinding is often required after a tree is removed to fully extract the stump or grind it lower than ground level. Your specialist will clear the area and move their stump grinding equipment into place before using the stump grinding blade to gradually bring the stump back below ground level. They’ll then cover it with soil. This is to ensure the tree won’t reshoot and grass can grow over it. Leaving a tree stump in the ground or untouched can attract termites and other pests. Plus, it will always sit in the way of landscaping attempts or leisure activities in your backyard.

Apple tree trimmed right back

£80

Seven Sisters, Greater London

21st Feb 2020

Hi. I need an apple tree trimmed right back and another few branches of a neighbouring plant trimmed. FYI the branches are quite high up. There is also a spikey Bush I want completely ripped out. Any branches need to be cut up and put in sacks which I will provide and put in a pile out the front. If u have a car I will give you extra money on top to go and dispose of the waste along with 5 old doors which have been cut in half. If u don't have a car no worries. Just do the gardening.

Connor did a great job trimming the big apple tree in my backyard. He also got rid of a very spikey bush in the front yard. Would not hesitate to get him back to do the gardening. Thanks again!
