Get Help: Couches are bulky and often heavy, so you’ll need at least one other person to help. Communicate clearly with your partner and move slowly to stay coordinated. If stairs or tight spaces are involved, having a third person can help guide from one end. 5. Use Proper Lifting Techniques: Lift with your legs, not your back. Keep your back straight and bend at the knees. Use furniture straps or a dolly if the couch is especially heavy. When going up or down stairs, the person on the lower end should support most of the weight. 6. Tilt Strategically: Many couches won’t fit through doorways or around corners in a horizontal position. Try standing the couch on one end and “hooking” it through the doorway in an L-shape. Remove legs or cushions if necessary to reduce size. 7.
