Whether you hire a car window tinter to come to your home or drop your car off at a tinting workshop near you, the application process is the same. Here’s what you can expect when you book a car window tinting service through Airtasker.
Car window tinting service - prepare and clean your windows
When you're ready to tint a car near you and book a car tinting service, expect your car to be parked in a covered, well-lit area. This limits the risk of dust getting under the film, causing bobbling. Your professional car window tinter will remove any existing tint film and prepare the first window.
Both sides are sprayed with a special application solution (not your standard glass cleaner), wiped with a soft squeegee or sponge, and dried with a lint-free cloth. This thorough cleaning is essential, especially if you've recently had windscreen repairs and replacement, as any residue could affect the tint's adhesion
Car window tinting service - measure and cut films
If you're confident that your car window is clean and doesn't require any car window repair or car window replacement, a professional window tint near you will then start working with the film. The outside of the window is re-sprayed with a solution and the film rolled across. Another layer of spray is applied and using a sharp blade your car window tinter carefully traces the window’s shape. Being careful of the glass, any edges and wing mirrors, the excess film is cut away and discarded.
The film is moved and aligned as needed, getting the perfect fit before it’s smoothed out with a window squeegee and dried with a heat gun.
Car window tinting service - apply window tint
Now the right size and shape for your window, the tint can be applied. This time the inside of the window is sprayed with a solution. Satisfied the film is in the perfect position your car window tinter will expose the adhesive side, smoothing out the film as they work, stopping air or excess solution getting trapped under the film. Steps 1-3 are then repeated for each car window that’s being tinted.
Car window tinting service - clean work area
Depending on the number of windows and the size of your car, tinting can take between one and two hours. Once your professional tinter is done, they’ll clean up the work area taking any discarded tinting film with them. Before heading off, they’ll let you know how long the adhesive takes to try and pass on any tips about caring for your window tints.

We need to have a film applied onto two glass walls and a door. The film will be supplied in a roll and need to be cut to fit within all banded rectangles. Each of these sections is 50cm tall and range from 0.8m to 1m wide. The film will need to be applied over the whole rectangles, fitting tightly to the banded lines in each section. Hi there , I need a Privacy Window Film applied to the bottom of my kitchen window. How to install the window film？ Before pasting, remember to tear off the protective film. Spray more soapy water on the glass and surface of the film, the more water, the better, and scrape all the bubbles out with a squeegee. Cut the film to a size of 2-3cm from the window frame, pick up a corner at the edge, re-spray and paste, and scrape the bubble. Q1: Why does the film peel off？ A1: Clean the surface thoroughly and make sure the surface is clean enough without any dust. Make sure to remove the first tier of the protection film before applying on the window. Q2: How can the film stick well and lets bubbles disappear？ A2: Use enough water.
