    What does landscaping include?

When you book your landscaper, it’s important to let them know in your task exactly what work you need done. That way, they’ll be able to make you a fair offer and bring along the right tools for the job.

Not sure where to start? If you need a range of general landscaping services, grab a notepad and pen, then go for a wander outside. Make a note of anything that needs tidying up, trimming, or removing. Then make sure you include these tasks in your listing.

Another way to think about your landscaping is to break it down by the type of specialised skill or service you need. Here are some of the jobs you might give to your landscaper and what you can expect to happen during the process.

    Planning

When you’re undertaking a BIG change, it’s important to lay the groundwork with some planning, first. A garden designer will help come up with ideas and map everything out on paper before you get started. Or you might hire a landscape architect to plan a larger commercial landscaping project in your local community or public space.

    Earth and rocks

Don’t break your back over your backyard landscaping - no matter how little or how much you need to do. You can hire earthmoving contractors to do your trench digging, levelling, and even your pool excavation or boring excavation. They’ll bring the all tools and equipment needed to dig and move the earth so you (literally) don’t have to get your hands dirty.

    Gardens

Planning a nice new garden bed to grow your own veggies, flowers, shady trees, or just want to reduce the amount of ground you have to mow? Get some help with your garden landscaping and garden edging to get the project off your to-do list and done sooner. That way, you can get on with the fun bit - planting!

    Water

Where there’s plants, there’s water. Make sure your plants get water when they need it (without having to remember to hose) with a drip irrigation system or a sprinkler system installation. Or make your garden more beautiful with a garden pond or water features. Either way, getting your water systems sorted is so much quicker and easier with an extra pair of hands or a landscaper near you who knows what they’re doing.

    Trees

Trees are wonderful things, but sometimes, a tree’s gotta go. If you’re not experienced, you should never do chainsawing, stump grinding, wood chipping and mulching, or land clearing yourself. That’s something you should leave up to an experienced landscaper with the right equipment and background to get the job done properly and safely.

    Building and installations

A big component of landscaping is installing things to make your space more functional and beautiful. Things like retaining walls, artificial turf, landscape lighting or even garden benches to sit on. It’s always best to get a landscaper to help when it involves heavy lifting or specialist equipment. They’ll help you get your installations done safely and help you start enjoying your space much sooner.

    Light digging of lawn area

    $80

    Ascot Vale VIC 3032, Australia

    18th Jan 2020

I need someone to help me to prepare my back lawn area for new seed or instant turf. It is only about 20 square metres. I just want to dig over the top 10 cm or so, rake out the odd bit of dead grass and level it off. I killed the grass many months ago, so there is almost none left. I did about 4 square metres today myself and it was easy but my back isn't what it used to be. It was easy, the soil was soft and not many tree roots or things like that. If you're young and fit, I estimate it should only take a couple of hours.

    Level Soil and Lay Turf

    $400

    Flemington VIC, Australia

    5th Jan 2020

Level soil in backyard, add topsoil where needed, supply and lay turf. Remove any excess soil or grass. Please supply all materials and include total cost in offer. Let me know what grass you would suggest - will need to be hardy as I have a dog. Backyard receives sunlight throughout the day in different parts. Will need to ensure it drains well as it is at the lower end of the block. There will be a row of screening trees on the back fence (not currently in photos) and all brick pavers currently in photos will be removed prior to the job. There is a lemon tree that can be grassed around. Current soil is very sandy - previously was brick paved so will likely need some top soil. Area is approx 34m2, 4.58m deep and 7.52m wide. Please note that there is limited side access to the property. There is enough room to take a wheelbarrow down most of the way but there are heating units leaving 37.5cm access towards the backyard (about a 5 metres further down (see pictures) Happy for you to access through the house if there is not too much mess, will just need to be able to get down 4 stairs at the back. Dates flexible but need the job to be done this week. Let me know if you want to have a look at the backyard - can arrange a time.

Chris did a fantastic job with the lawn and was really helpful, with good suggestions for grass type and how to work with some obstacles (e.g concrete) in the backyard. He turned up on time and is very friendly.

    Garden grunt required

    $120

    Elwood VIC 3184, Australia

    30th Dec 2019

Your challenge is to dig 20 holes (20cm diameter) and move one pre-pruned shrub. Background: I've removed about 4 cubic metres of green waste and sprayed the weeds - am now being patient and waiting for them to die. Goal: I expect the garden will need to be sprayed again, so won't be able to replant it for a while. To make it look less of a wasteland in the interim, I'd like to plant pots of annuals that can be lifted out of the way again when it gets sprayed again. Tools and skills required: It will require someone with some strength. Ideally you will know your way around a shovel. If not, all you need is decent English and I can teach you. There's a shovel here but it's not designed for the task. You will preferably bring a good one with a sharp edge able to go through roots etc.

Jesse arrived on time, worked hard, and both followed directions and took initiative to get the job done efficiently. Even better is that he's a polite and sensible young man, capable of holding a conversation. I would have no hesitation hiring him again - I'd even be happy to have him work unsupervised or to send him to help a friend or relative.
