What does landscaping include?

When you book your landscaper, it’s important to let them know in your task exactly what work you need to be done - from simple maintenance services to a complex landscape design for your outdoors. That way, they’ll be able to make you a fair offer and bring along the right tools for the job.

Not sure where to start? If you need a range of general landscaping services, grab a notepad and pen, then go for a wander outside. Make a note of anything that needs tidying up, trimming, or removing. Then make sure you include these tasks in your listing.

Another way to think about your landscaping is to break it down by the type of specialised skill or service you need, such as installing a water feature or irrigation system, designing garden beds, or planning the landscape of your pool area. Here are some of the jobs you might give to your landscaper and what you can expect to happen during the process.

When you’re undertaking a BIG change, it’s important to lay the groundwork with some planning first. A garden designer will help come up with ideas and map everything out on paper before you get started on your garden space makeover. Or you might hire a landscape architect to plan a larger commercial landscaping project in your local community or public outdoor space.

Earth and rocks

Don’t break your back over your backyard landscaping - no matter how little or how much you need to do. You can hire earthmoving contractors to do your trench digging, levelling, and even your pool excavation or boring excavation. They’ll bring the all tools and equipment needed to dig and move the earth so you (literally) don’t have to get your hands dirty.

Planning a nice new garden bed to grow your own veggies, flower beds, shady trees, or just want to reduce the amount of ground you have to mow in your yard? Get some help with your garden landscaping and garden edging to get the project off your to-do list and done sooner. That way, you can get on with the fun bit in landscaping - planting!

Where there are plants, there’s water. Make sure your plants get water when they need it (without having to remember to hose) with a drip irrigation system or a sprinkler system installation. Or make your garden more beautiful with a garden pond or water features. Either way, getting your water systems sorted is so much quicker and easier with an extra pair of hands or a landscaper near you who knows what they’re doing.

Trees are wonderful things, but sometimes, a tree’s gotta go. If you’re not experienced, you should never do chainsawing, stump grinding, wood chipping and mulching, or land clearing yourself. That’s something you should leave up to an experienced landscaper with the right equipment and background to get the job done properly and safely.

Building and installations

A big component of landscaping is installing things to make your space more functional and beautiful. Things like retaining walls, artificial grass installation, landscape lighting, or even garden benches to sit on. It’s always best to get a landscaper to help when it involves heavy lifting or specialist equipment. Garden landscapers can help you get your installations done safely and help you start enjoying your space much sooner.

Courtyard Landscaping

Red Hill QLD, Australia

14th May 2024

We have a small courtyard, that has undergone some drainage modifications to aid in some flooding issues. All the drainage is completed, but we wanted to get some assistance from someone with some expertise in basic landscaping to help us tidy it up. There are photographs included, (and other photographs we can share of a mood board), as we try and lean into a more Italian simplified courtyard that has potted trees on a decomposed granite type base. The Courtyard already has stamped concrete terracotta tiles and a pergola framework which will remain as we may try and grow a creeper grape vine on it :) ‘Some’ things we would need: 1) Removal of excess surface level dirt and stones 2) Removal of 2 x Wooden Bench Seats, some plant matter (All major Plants and Trees have already been professionally uprooted and removed) 3) Careful compacting of dirt / ground to compliment drainage 4) Weed mat installation 5) Delivery, prep and set down of Decomposed Granite in all dirt areas, 30mm deep 6) Wall highlighted with Red Outline - to be rendered 7) Then all blue walls (and on fence say 3-4m long) to be painted a warm Tuscan Ochre colour. 2 coats with a warn tuscan italian feel, we can help show you the look we're after. 8) Assistance of 4-5 large pots and planting Olive trees or Pencil Pines or the like. 9) Parking available on site for tradie with a ute or trailer and/or skip bin. Most likely would someone to come out and visit, happy to pay a small fee for a spot visit if it's required. Looking for someone with an interest in Landscaping and courtyard aesthetics :) Price is negotiable
