Top Childcare & Safety related questions
First, keep the rooms free from clutter. Make sure that all surfaces, toys, utensils, and your hands are sanitised regularly. Next, replenish any emergency kits (if you’re a Tasker, make sure you know where the first-aid kit is). Lastly, supervise the children or babies at all times. Note that instead of bringing your child to a daycare or playschool setting, the Tasker can head to your location.
The top 5 tips (or rules) for child safety at home are:
- Prevent illness through proper handwashing, sanitising surfaces, and ensuring that the child has all the recommended immunisations.
- Practice food safety.
- Be safe while playing.
- Baby proof or childproof the area. Avoid clutter, pad sharp edges, and make sure that nothing dangerous is within reach.
- Know what to do in an emergency. This includes having an emergency kit and a list of emergency contacts.
First, state in your task post that you require them to present their proof of registration, licence, and credentials. Next, before booking a Tasker, make sure to go through their customer ratings and reviews. Finally, ask to see their credentials before letting a childcare provider into your home.
The list of baby proofing to-dos may depend on your own home and child, but in general, you must do the following:
- Keep surfaces clean and free from clutter
- Keep dangerous items (knives, scissors, ceramics, cables, sockets, cleaning products, small things that could be choking hazards) out of reach
- Pad sharp edges or corners
- Keep an eye out for heavy objects
- Know the settings on your hot-water heater
For a more thorough approach, we recommend hiring a baby proofing expert near you.
A child safety kit is a document that should contain the following information. Make sure to update this regularly:
- Your child’s name
- Birthdate
- Age
- Height and weight
- Gender
- Ethnicity
- Eye and hair colour
- Unique physical characteristics (e.g. birthmarks, braces, glasses)
- Medical needs and medications
- Emergency contacts
- Fingerprints
- DNA sample (e.g. hair, an old toothbrush)
- Recent colour photo
This depends on your child’s development. Some parents feel comfortable getting rid of the baby gates when their child turns two or three, and some child experts recommend childproofing until the age of five. No matter when you choose to stop baby proofing or childproofing, remember that these little precautions and adjustments don’t eliminate the need for proper adult supervision.

What do childcare and safety services include?
When you book a childcare and safety service through our platform, you get to work with a practitioner who can go to your home and help you look after your baby or child. If you or your partner are about to give birth, you can also find experts to help you get through labour and the first few weeks of life with your newborn.
You can find the following types of childcare and safety practitioners on our platform:
Babysitting
A babysitter usually takes care of babies and young children temporarily - for example, an emergency comes up at work, you need to run some errands, or you want a (well-deserved) night out. Babysitters usually do not have any formal qualifications besides registration.
They’re in charge of changing nappies, preparing meals, keeping the kids entertained, and supervising them.
Childminding
If you’re going to be out regularly (e.g. for your 9-5 job), or if you’re going to be on a business trip for a week and none of your relatives can watch the kids, you’ll need a childminder.
Childminders, like babysitters, are required to register with Ofsted. They may also have more credentials than a typical babysitter. These can include a childminding course, pediatric First Aid, and safeguarding training. Childminders typically prepare meals, change diapers, bathe and dress the kids, take them to and from school, and help with their education.
Doula services
Doulas are responsible for providing emotional and physical support to the mother. This usually starts months before the birth. During your pregnancy, a doula is expected to educate you about pregnancy and birth, help you create a birth plan, talk to you about life experiences that might affect your birth experience, and help you prepare for your post-birth state.
During labour, they can support you physically by creating your ideal birthing environment. They also suggest positions and breathing exercises. Doulas also serve as your champion when talking to your healthcare providers.
After giving birth, you can usually expect a doula to help you bond with your new baby and give you tips for feeding, sleeping, and settling with your newborn. Doulas typically service home births. If you choose to deliver your child in a hospital and don’t have a way to get your doula there fast, you can use Airtasker to find a trusted driver near you.
Maternity nursing
When you book a maternity nurse, expect a support system that’ll help you learn the basics of caring for your new baby. They may show you how to carry, feed, bathe, dress, and comfort your newborn. Maternity nurses may also help by taking care of your baby for hours at a time, allowing you time to rest and recover.
Life with your little one can be challenging! Thankfully, you can easily find people in your community who can help you shop for groceries without leaving your home. You can also find cleaning experts who’ll help you declutter or even clean out your gutters.

My wife and I are looking for a caring and reliable nanny to help mind our 3-month-old baby. We’re after someone 2 days per week, around 4 hours each day (midday-ish, flexible). I work from home, and this time gives my wife a chance to get things done around the house or run errands without juggling bub. My wife and I have 2 kids: a 2 and half year old girl and 17 month old boy. We are looking for a nanny to help out on occasional evenings and weekends. The boy is energetic and runs around a lot and very very approachable. The girl is a bit more shy with new people. You will not need to handle 2 kids at once unless they are watching TV and either me or my wife will be home either working on a laptop or doing housework. Kids like to do Lego, play with their toy pianos, the girl likes singing and dancing. We have a big grassy backyard with plenty of stuff to do. If you are coming on the weekend the goal will be to get them very active on weekday evenings we are open pretty much to anything. Please respond with your availability for the following days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (6-8) PM ($60) Weekends 8:30 AM to 1 PM (if you start with this will double the price to $120) Also let us know if you have a police check and phone numbers of babysitting references.

Lovely, warm and a natural with kids. Also easy to deal with. Would recommend!

Nanny needed casually for after school
$5
Melton South VIC 3338, Australia
31st May 2025
I am a solo parent running a mobile and at home salon beauty business and require some support with care for my 4 year old daughter Victoria. Our last tasker just stopped responding after I’d approved her offer so I’m urgently trying to find somebody to potentially start next week! Nanny required on a casual basis for after childcare from 6:30pm. Must have a drivers licence and be available to pick up at 6:30pm. Must be available sometimes at the last minute - if possible - as I am a lash tech and get bookings sometimes 2 days or 1 day before. I am flexible with this though. Must be able to prepare meals and do some housekeeping as it’s a huge struggle keeping up with washing and household duties while working 5-7 days sometimes. Must be okay with animals - we have 2 miniature dachshunds and 1 cat. Must be able to feed them sometimes if I am working late. My after hours range from finishing at 7:30pm and finishing at 11pm! I am mobile and at home salon technician. Weekend availability is also a plus but I am not always working weekends. A little about my girl, she loves going for bike rides after school around our area sometimes after school, she is very affectionate and lovessss to chat! But also loves to relax in her playroom, play with her toys, draw, paint and watch tv! She is very self sufficient, loves to do household chores like unloading the dishwasher and loves helping prepare meals. And is a very girly girl. I am flexible and set my own hours so if you send me your availability I will ensure to only schedule those times 🙏✨ Thank you ❤️

From the moment we met Taryn, I felt completely at ease. She’s warm, professional, and has a natural connection with children. She instantly bonded with my daughter, Victoria within minutes and created a safe, loving, and playful environment that made Victoria feel seen, heard, and happy. As soon as Taryn left, Victoria raved about how much she missed her.
