Perma Child Safety offers various gates, barriers, and baby-proofing products for different parts of your home. Depending on what you’ve bought, your installation task may involve mounting a gate, setting up a barrier or fitting several smaller safety accessories.

Positioning the gate

The first step is working out exactly where the Perma Child Safety baby gate should sit. A Tasker can measure the opening, check that the gate fits within the available width and look at the surfaces on either side. 

This is especially useful around stairs, where the position of the gate can be affected by the direction of the staircase, nearby walls, skirting boards or handrails. They can mark the intended position before any hardware is fitted, giving you a clearer idea of how the finished installation will sit.

Installing hardware-mounted baby gates 

Perma Child Safety’s hardware-mounted gates need to be fixed to a suitable surface, so getting the position and mounting points right matters. A Tasker can measure the opening, mark where the mounting hardware needs to go, fit the wall-mounting set, brackets, and catches, then attach and adjust the gate. 

If the gate is going across carpeted stairs, you may also need carpet installation to create a suitable surface around the area before the gate is fitted. That can save you from trying to juggle carpet, measurements and gate hardware yourself.

Installing pressure-mounted baby gates installation

A pressure-mounted gate from Perma Child Safety avoids drilling, but that doesn’t mean you can simply push them into place and call it a day. A Tasker can position the gate within the doorway or opening, fit any required extensions, wall protectors or banister adaptors, then adjust the pressure points so the gate sits properly. 

This can be particularly useful when the opening isn't perfectly straightforward, or you’re working around skirting boards, walls or stair banisters.

Adjusting and checking the gate

Once the gate is attached, the final step is getting the fit right. The Tasker can adjust the gate within its allowable range, check that it opens and closes smoothly and make sure the latch lines up with its catch. 

They can also check that the Perma Child Safety baby gate sits squarely and that any supplied extensions or adjustment points are fitted correctly. This final check matters because a gate that looks installed isn't necessarily ready to use until its moving and locking parts have been properly adjusted.
