My alternator went out in my 2003 BMW X5 Sport (4.6) and i am a full time student, and am currently homeless, living at the Traveltime hotel & going to school 40 hours a week. So my car being out of commission is an absolute nightmare! I have a little money saved up, but your best price would be greatly appreciated. I have not bought the part yet, because I assume you want to do that, so it's insured like your work?

I might or might not need a diagnostic I think I know what the problem is and might need a quote, but i’m no professional of course. I also have a video of the incident that occurred. my entire electrical system started to glitch out as soon as i got off the freeway to go home. My steering wheel started locking on me and the car eventually shut down completely. i got it jump started, 2 minutes later the car completely died so i asked my grandfather since he has experience in being a mechanic and it can most likely be the alternator. The alternator drained the battery so I went to get a new battery so that i can get the alternator fixed because i'm aware the new battery will just be drained if i try it with the old alternator. I let the car run for a few minutes and the battery light stayed on for some time. I even tried using my own OBD Il scanner it shows no codes but the battery light is still there and that just worries me. I believe I really need my alternator replaced and that's all. If need be, I will buy an alternator part if that's easier, but i'd like both quotes with & w/out the part. Im not sure what it can really be, because when i got the new battery the light keeps flickering on & off and my scanner is not showing anything is wrong with the car when i know it is. I asked my grandfather to check the Alternator "Excite" Wire but he had to travel back home. He told me to ask around for whatever shop I go to check the wire since the small plug on the back of the alternator can sometimes get brittle or loose. If that plug isn't making a solid connection, a brand new alternator still won't charge the battery.
