I have a 2016 Mazda3 2.5L Skyactiv (144,000 miles) that needs an experienced mechanic to diagnose an engine noise. Symptoms: Loud metallic knocking/ticking noise from the passenger/front side of the engine. Noise increases with RPM and is noticeable at idle. New metal-on-metal squeaking noise immediately after startup. Engine shook/vibrated at idle on one occasion. Check engine light with knock sensor code (P0327/P0328). What I need: Diagnose the source of the noise before replacing any parts. Determine whether it's coming from the accessory drive (belt, tensioner, idler, alternator, A/C compressor, water pump) or inside the engine (timing chain, VVT, valvetrain, etc.).
