Top Rendering & Resurfacing related questions
For certain types of tasks, you may need someone who has a specialist licence and also additional insurance. Please make sure that you confirm that a Tasker has the relevant licence and insurance before accepting an offer.
Rendering is the process of applying a render (which is made of lime, sand, cement, bonding agents, and colourants) over the exterior or interior house surfaces, like brick and concrete. Rendering is a popular investment for many homeowners because it can improve kerbside appeal and help protect surfaces.
Resurfacing involves repairing cracks and impurities before applying a finish and is usually done on interior surfaces in bathrooms and kitchens. Rendering is usually done on walls or fences and involves adding a whole new layer of cement and/or texture.
Some of the most common rendering home projects include rendering both interior and exterior concrete and brick walls. Kitchen worktops and bath resurfacing are popular projects for resurfacing if you’re doing a home renovation on a budget.
Usually, your renderer will have all the tools and supplies they need to complete the rendering job for you. Once they know what space they’re working with and the colours and finishes you need, they’ll order in the supplies needed to get the job done.
Depending on the scope of the project, rendering can take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. On average, rendering the exterior of a medium-sized home takes five days to complete, although it will take longer for your surfaces to finish drying.
The average cost of rendering is £160 - £437 when you hire through Airtasker. The exact price will depend on the time it takes to prepare the surfaces for rendering, the type and size of surfaces, any finishes, and the type of rendering you’ve chosen (cement or acrylic).

What do rendering services include?
Here are some of the most popular rendering services and what you can expect from each:
Exterior wall rendering
Exterior wall rendering not only protects walls from the elements but can help lift the appearance of your home. Your renderer will start by chatting with you about the best render materials to use for your exterior, and any colours or finishes. They’ll prepare the walls and repair any structural defects. They may remove external features, like rainwater pipes, before they begin the rendering process. Next, they’ll measure and mix the render - usually in a concrete mixer or wheelbarrow. Your renderer will plaster the material on your walls using a trowel and add a decorative finish or texture if desired. They may finish off the job with a weather-proof layer of paint.
Interior wall rendering
Need interior walls rendered? The interior rendering process is normally referred to as plastering. It’s often used to coat walls and surfaces (like bricks) to make it smooth and flat for painting. Or to add interesting textures and effects. Your plasterer will mix dry materials with water and apply the plaster to your interior wall surfaces. You’ll need to allow around a week for your plastered walls to dry before painting.
Fence or retaining wall rendering
Your renderer can also render your fences or retaining walls to match the exterior render of your home for a uniform, modern look. Your renderer will likely recommend a smooth or medium texture so that water can’t get trapped in the pockets. They’ll prepare the surface, mix the render, and apply it using a trowel. They’ll use a range of tools to create your preferred texture and finish off with paint to help weather-proof your fence.
Kitchen and bathroom resurfacing
Resurfacing is popular in both kitchen renovation and bathroom renovation projects because it can give your home a fresh, new look without replacing any tiles or fixtures. Popular resurfacing locations include wall tiles, baths, basins, shower trays, vanity tops, and benchtops. Your resurfacing professional will start by confirming your preferences, like the colour and level of gloss you’d like. Then they’ll use sheets and masking tape to protect any areas in the room not being resurfaced. Next, they’ll remove any silicone and deep clean the surface for maximum adhesion. If needed, they’ll do minor repairs, such as removing chips and scratches and smoothing out the surface through sanding and etching. Finally, they’ll apply the primer and topcoat in line with your preferred colour and finish, reapplying silicon and removing the masking tape.

Render repair on one side of my property
£1,000
Whyteleafe, Surrey
15th Feb 2026
Hi, I’m looking for a localised render repair on my property in Whyteleafe. I have a few cracks in the exterior cement render, and water is coming in around the window sills when it rains. I do NOT need the whole wall or house re-rendered — just targeted repairs. Could you please provide a quote for: 1. Raking out and repairing cracks in the existing cement render using a flexible exterior filler or polymer-modified repair mortar. 2. Re-sealing around the affected window frames/sills with a high-quality exterior MS-polymer sealant. 3. Spot-painting the repaired areas only to match the existing finish. 4. Confirming what materials you use for crack repair and sealing. 5. Whether the quote includes labour, materials, and any access equipment (it’s a ground floor/first floor property, so scaffolding shouldn’t be needed). For reference, I understand small crack repairs are usually in the £100–£300 range, and patch repairs (1–2m²) £250–£450, with window frame resealing typically £107–£310 per window. I only mention this so we can align on expectations. Could you also confirm: - Your experience with render repairs and water-ingress issues - Public liability insurance - Whether you offer any guarantee on repair work - Estimated time to complete the job I can send photos if needed. Thank you — looking forward to your quote. UPDATE I have added a few pictures the main work is around the 2 round windows and the cracks below, and the downstairs windows, as well as some cracks along the wall.
