What does landscaping include?
When you book your landscaper, it’s important to let them know in your task exactly what work you need to be done - from simple maintenance services to a complex landscape design for your outdoors. That way, they’ll be able to make you a fair offer and bring along the right tools for the job.Â
Not sure where to start? If you need a range of general landscaping services, grab a notepad and pen, then go for a wander outside. Make a note of anything that needs tidying up, trimming, or removing. Then make sure you include these tasks in your listing.Â
Another way to think about your landscaping is to break it down by the type of specialised skill or service you need, such as installing a water feature or irrigation system, designing garden beds, or planning the landscape of your pool area. Here are some of the jobs you might give to your landscaper and what you can expect to happen during the process.
Planning
When you’re undertaking a BIG change, it’s important to lay the groundwork with some planning first. A garden designer will help come up with ideas and map everything out on paper before you get started on your garden space makeover. Or you might hire a landscape architect to plan a larger commercial landscaping project in your local community or public outdoor space.
Earth and rocks
Don’t break your back over your backyard landscaping - no matter how little or how much you need to do. You can hire earthmoving contractors to do your trench digging, levelling, and even your pool excavation or boring excavation. They’ll bring the all tools and equipment needed to dig and move the earth so you (literally) don’t have to get your hands dirty.
Gardens
Planning a nice new garden bed to grow your own veggies, flower beds, shady trees, or just want to reduce the amount of ground you have to mow in your yard? Get some help with your garden landscaping and garden edging to get the project off your to-do list and done sooner. That way, you can get on with the fun bit in landscaping - planting!
Water
Where there are plants, there’s water. Make sure your plants get water when they need it (without having to remember to hose) with a drip irrigation system or a sprinkler system installation. Or make your garden more beautiful with a garden pond or water features. Either way, getting your water systems sorted is so much quicker and easier with an extra pair of hands or a landscaper near you who knows what they’re doing.
Trees
Trees are wonderful things, but sometimes, a tree’s gotta go. If you’re not experienced, you should never do chainsawing, stump grinding, wood chipping and mulching, or land clearing yourself. That’s something you should leave up to an experienced landscaper with the right equipment and background to get the job done properly and safely.Â
Building and installations
A big component of landscaping is installing things to make your space more functional and beautiful. Things like retaining walls, artificial grass installation, landscape lighting, or even garden benches to sit on. It’s always best to get a landscaper to help when it involves heavy lifting or specialist equipment. Garden landscapers can help you get your installations done safely and help you start enjoying your space much sooner.

Retaining Wall & Fence Remediation - Labour Only
$1,500
Wright ACT, Australia
11th Apr 2024
I have a side fence in place that will probably need to be removed and reset. Easy access from side as a house is currently in the early stages of build next door. Sloping block, so height of retaining wall will vary. Only 0.5 m likely at front of block, but there are 2 sections of fence that need a deep retaining wall (around 1m). Only looking for cheap concrete wall and to sit nicely under the fence if possible, so fence will have to be re-positioned. The wall doesn't need to be built for the entire length of the property, as fence slopes down to the level of the easement which is at ground level. Hole is now mostly filled too but access from either side possible. Maybe something like these: https://retainingwallsupplies.com.au/concrete-sleepers/malibu-woodgrain-concrete-sleepers/ https://www.bunnings.com.au/brands/r/ridgi Happy to pay for materials and negotiate labour.

$300
Chapman ACT, Australia
12th Jan 2024
Job as stated above behind a rock wall across the back of the block about 2 metres wide varies a bit with a hedge, dont need the hedge cut just whats in front, some ivy coming through from the back neighbour. Its roughly 28 metres across the back from left to right. A couple of privets need sawing back so i can drill a hole and poison them they are only just over knee height. Poisons cant be used on weeds generally as i have a hedge and a dog. I have about 10-12 large bags of mulch stored which needs to be dispersed when finished.
Matthew did an excellent job, worked hard and did everything I wanted done and extra. He is courteous and cleans up after he is finished, I would use him again.
