In most cases, no. The data cable installation expert you hire usually has the tools and equipment to do the job, along with the requisite skill and years of experience. The only items you have to provide for this service are the spools of cable, the wall bracket, shelf or cabinet for the Ethernet switches, the cable plates, and the devices you wish to make part of your home network.
The time it takes to render this service depends on the complexity of the home network you want to be installed. Wiring and setting up a simple network consisting of a few devices and your internet cable installation can take at most an hour to complete. A more complex set-up with multiple devices across several rooms or areas may take 4-5 hours, due to the length of cable your installer must measure, cut and splice.
Sure! If you do home network set-up as a business, you can hire a Tasker to help. Simply make a post on our platform that lists everything you need; you’ll discover how easy it is to find a Tasker for almost anything. You’ll get matched with Ethernet cable installation experts closest to you, and you can talk prices and schedules, then hire the best one for you.
Yes, if it’s for a simple home network. Should this consist of a couple of devices, a Wi-Fi extender and your modem, you won’t need that many cable connections. You should only need a small 4 or 8-port switch that can be set up quickly. But if the home network you want is more complex (includes several devices) and spans multiple rooms in your home, consider hiring an installation expert on Airtasker.
Yes! When you go on our platform, you’ll see that there are Taskers for hundreds of different jobs. Make a post with all the crucial details about your business network set-up to attract the right Taskers. Mention what sort of business it is, its location, the number and type of devices to network, your budget and how soon you want it done. Taskers with the appropriate skills and experience will ask about the job, and you can negotiate from there.
The data cable installation service includes all the tasks necessary to set up a wired network in your home. This can involve planning the network wiring layout, cutting holes to run the data cables and wiring and attaching cables to specified devices. The necessary internet cable installation and structured cable installation may be included as well. To finish the installation, your data cable installer can test the network.
Your data cable installation expert begins with planning the layout. You specify in which room or area in your home to place the modem, Wi-Fi extender, patch panel and other network devices. This can be in your attic, basement, a closet or additional spaces, as long as it’s a central location to the devices in your network. Your data cable installer can help you determine the best location, and do the measurements for the cable lengths.
Once the plans for the cabling, the location of the devices and the modem are laid out, your installation expert cuts out holes for the data cables to push through. Your installer then prepares a base for the Ethernet switch, router and modem. This can be a wall bracket or shelf; if you don’t have these ready, some installers can purchase and install the shelf or wall bracket for you, but this can cost extra.
Next, they measure and cut data cable to the appropriate lengths, splice and connect jacks on one end. The completed cables are pushed through the holes. Your Ethernet installation expert then seals the holes with recessed cable plates.
With the cables ready, your data cable installer connects the cables to the Ethernet switches on one end, and to the cable connection of a device on the other. Some cables may be spliced and connected to your patch panel. The devices your installer can connect the cables to can be a PC, CCTV monitor, media player, Wi-Fi extender, gaming console or other compatible devices. Some installers can label each of the data cables to make troubleshooting or upgrading easier.
When attaching the cables, your hired expert takes care not to bend them too much. They can mount and secure them with insulated staples as they jut out from their cable plates and run through and along your walls. Some installers may label and bundle up cables with zip ties to prevent snagging, bending and to keep them from coming loose.
Once all the connections are done, your data cable installer tests the network. They can test the connected devices individually to ensure they are part of the network, work as intended and connect to the internet (if they can) as they should. If any device doesn’t work as expected or there are flaws, your expert troubleshoots the problem. They can test the system and do the appropriate fixes until your network functions perfectly.

Hi, I’m after a data cable guy to re patch a torn network cable into a rack termination bay. The Server rack was moved and as it moved 2 cables were torn out that were running to the top panel. It’s 2 cables only, shouldn’t be too difficult, just need someone who is accredited and a professional as it’s for a business (one of my clients). Hoping to have this done tomorrow (24/07/20).
Fantastic job and a fantastic guy. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for cabling or similar jobs.

We need some cable run the length (~20m) of our roof cavity. there is very little space (50mm gap) in the cathedral ceiling space to run the cable so someone skilled in feeding cables ‘fishing cables’ is required. May require lifting up corner of tin roof sheet to get past difficult spots.

We require a licensed cabler to complete 5 cable runs of cat 6 data cable. We need 5 cables run for cctv cameras 3 will be run to the exterior of the building and 2 internally. These 5 cable runs are all back to the same switch in a comms room in the same building. All cables and materials will be supplied. There is plenty of roof access to do the cable runs. We will have 2 staff members to assist the cabler. There will be an opportunity for more work if all goes well on the day. We are anticipating 8 hours of work. but can be done quicker depending on the skill of the cabler. If you have a harness for roof work that would be desirable. The cabler will need an ACMA Open cablers license Security license Working at heights tickets

You do not need to be a CCTV expert to do this job, we just need someone who knows how to run and terminate data cables. We have the NVR and Cameras already. You do not need to know how to program them. You simply need to run the cables, terminate the Cables with RJ45 connectors, mount cameras, plug in cables and point in the right direction. They are zoom lens autofocus cameras so there will be no time spent on focusing. Once we have confirmed that the cables are good and the cameras are operating the job should be finished. The cables will run through a plaster wall and out of weather boards. There will then need to be about 3m of conduit going up the outside of the wall. First camera will be mounted at the exit of the conduit underneath the roof eave. Other 3 cameras are to be mounted under a verandah on the front of a double fronted victorian. The verandah is all timber with exposed beams so cables can be easily run and stapled/pinned to the exposed beams. First two cameras are within about 3 metres of the NVR. The other camera is about 10 metres away from the NVR You will need to supply cable, connectors, staples and screws. We will do all programming, port forwarding or any other requirements. The job is purely to run cables, attach cameras, point them in the right direction and then once we confirm we can get a connection the job is done. C Based on previous experience this job should take no longer than 2 hours.
