What does a soundproofing service include?

Soundproofing services on Airtasker include all the steps involved from testing and recommending a solution through to installing your soundproofing gear. Here are some of the most commonly requested areas for soundproofing:

Wall soundproofing

Soundproofing your walls is one of the most popular ways to soundproof a room. Your technician may advise you to insulate your walls and soundproof them with foam. They’ll cut into your wall to install the foam and repair your plasterboard afterwards. Another option is to apply extra layers of drywall to your current walls, thickening the wall and making it harder for sound to travel through. You could also use vinyl as an extra layer of protection. You may also want to apply several coats of soundproofing paint or temporarily pin soundproofing blankets to your walls to block unwanted sound. Whatever options you go with, your technician will help you set everything up to soundproof your walls.

Window soundproofing

A lot of sound-waves can travel through windows, so window soundproofing services can make a huge difference when minimising noise in your home. Your technician will seal cracks in your windows using a sealant. They may also install soundproof curtains or blinds to help dull or block out further noise.

Floor and ceiling soundproofing

If your neighbours above or below you have a bit of a noise problem, it can be well worth trying a few different ways to block this out. The most common method for soundproofing ceilings and floors is to install a resilient channel, which is a thin metal structure that helps block sound-waves from travelling between sheets of drywall. They’ll remove your wall sheeting to install the resilient channel before replacing it and repairing the joints. Your technician may also recommend adding carpet or rugs to your floor to further absorb sounds.

Car soundproofing

Car soundproofing can help dull the noise of the road or engine in your car - especially in older cars. This usually involves laying sound deadening foam mats under your floor mats. But they may also recommend insulating your car doors and boot for added noise reduction. This will involve unscrewing the inside panels and installing insulation in your car doors before replacing the panels.

Need help Acoustic Sound Proofing a room & installing fixtures

$2,500

Cremorne VIC 3121, Australia

3rd Nov 2025

I'm converting an existing room into a podcast recording space and need help reducing external construction noise and installing fixtures. There’s ongoing construction in the land plot next to us and the goal is to dampen vibration and noise so recordings are clean and distraction-free. I've been advised that the best approach is to build a “room within a room” to reduce vibration and sound transfer. Additionally, I have purchased curtains that I'd like to hang on the side walls, but can’t mount them because the existing walls which are just acoustic plasterboard and not soundproofed and use thin TrueCore steel studs that aren’t load-bearing. Will need a light internal timber frame or another safe structure to mount into. I'm looking for someone who can help me with this soundproofing setup and ensure the space is ready for recording. Bonus if you’ve soundproofed or acoustically treated a project like this before.

Soundproof Shared Apartment Wall - Add Insulation, MLV Barrier

$2,000

South Yarra VIC, Australia

21st Sep 2025

Hi there! I’m looking for an experienced handyman, builder, or soundproofing specialist to reduce noise from my neighboring apartment through the shared internal wall in my bedroom. The wall is bare and ready (see photos for space, dimensions, setup). Aim: Cut airborne noise (voices, TV, footsteps) without big changes—just build out wall slightly for layers. Scope: Prep by adjusting elements to access cavity, cut carpet at base (no need neat—floorboards coming in 2-3 months), move skirting forward ~10-15cm (see photos). Layers (inside out): Add acoustic insulation (rockwool/fiberglass) to cavity; install MLV sheet (1-2mm, 5-10kg/m²—I’ll provide or quote) sealed with caulk; add 13mm acoustic plasterboard over MLV with Green Glue for damping. Finish: Tape/joint/mud seams; paint to match walls (neutral white/cream—samples provided); shorten blind/curtain track ~10-15cm (lightweight). All work clean, low-dust, compliant with Aus standards. No damage to window, outlets (GPOs/data nearby), downlights. Access weekdays/evenings; 1-2 days job. Materials: I supply paint/curtain bits; quote insulation, MLV, board, Glue/caulk, tools. Budget $800-1500 flexible. Need: Soundproofing/apartment reno experience (portfolio/refs), insured, tidy, local [suburb/city, e.g., Melbourne]. Photos show angles: outlets, floor, window, ceiling. Message for questions/quote—let’s quiet this space!

Soundproof my garage

$2,500

Brunswick West VIC, Australia

21st Apr 2025

I'm renting a unit with an attached brick garage. I'm a musician playing mostly guitars and bit of drums, and I'd like to soundproof the garage to at least around a 25db reduction across most relevant frequencies. This is not meant to be permanent, so ideally looking for a way to make the soundproofing structures removable and reusable in the future, as much as possible without dramatically increasing costs. I do not expect state of the art soundproofing - it's ok if things can be heard a little on the outside. I just need enough to allow me to practice without disturbing the neighbours too much. While the walls are brick, the roof is bare insulation, and the the garage door swings open outwardly and is metal. Concrete slab floor. The dimensions are approximately 485 L x 264 W x 224 H. There are a two columns that stick out from either wall, around 11 L x 23 W. I am happy to be flexible with price if acoustic sound treatment can also be included. A seperate quote would be great.
