I have a Holden Captiva 2013, petrol, manual, that requires mechanical repair for a diagnosed timing correlation issue. Please see attached the photos of the report from the mechanic who diagnosed. 2013 Holden Captiva 7 (Auto, petrol). I brought my car to a local mechanic after hearing a weird "clapping" sound coming from the front of the car/engine. He told me the engine is completely wasted (or about to at least), something with the pistons firing/breaking (unsure exactly, my knowledge is limited). He said there's no point in trying to repair or replace the engine for this car. And that I shouldn't drive it anymore as it can break any minute, leave a huge oil spill and even be dangerous with the pistons shooting out (at the passenger). I'm hoping to get a second opinion/inspection on whether this is correct. If repairing or replacing the engine I'm also open to exploring that as I do love the car and it actually only has 120K km. Let me know if you need any additional info. Unsure about what the budget needs to be, and of course, if we move to repair I understand it will be more expansive than just getting an inspection.
