I need dishwasher mechanic

I have an Omega bench top 101 dishwasher. It's seven years old and has performed brilliantly. But it has developed a problem actually starting. The wash cycle starts normally, but then cuts out shortly after the soap dish drops open. I can get it to go eventually, but it takes several attempts (as many as 5 to 6 attempts on occasion . . . ) Is this a common problem? Everything else about the machine is fine, if a bit worn, so I would like to keep it going for a few more years if that's possible. Thanks
