Fit a plywood floor and secure camping gear in my Triton ute canopy

$350

Rockingham WA 6168, Australia

24th Sep 2026

Details: 1. Measure the canopy floor • Measure the length and width at several points, as the walls may taper or include wheel-arch intrusions. • Note the locations of tie-down points, access doors, wiring, drain holes, and any raised sections. • Make a cardboard template before cutting the plywood. 2. Choose suitable materials • Use 12–18 mm exterior-grade or marine plywood. • Seal all plywood edges and faces with exterior paint, polyurethane, or marine varnish to protect against moisture. • Use stainless-steel or zinc-plated fasteners, washers, and brackets. • Add rubber matting, carpet, or closed-cell foam under the floor to reduce noise, prevent slipping, and protect the canopy base. 3. Cut and prepare the floor • Transfer the template to the plywood and cut it carefully. • Test-fit the panel before sealing it. • Sand the edges, then apply several coats of sealant, paying particular attention to cut edges and screw holes. • If the floor is large or difficult to remove, divide it into two or more sections with a small clearance gap between panels. 4. Install the plywood • Place the rubber mat or foam beneath the plywood. • Avoid drilling into the vehicle body unless necessary. Use existing canopy mounting points, factory tie-downs, rivnuts, or removable brackets where possible. • If drilling is unavoidable, check both sides of the panel first for wiring, fuel lines, brake lines, and structural members. Treat exposed metal edges against corrosion and seal all penetrations. • Use large washers or backing plates to spread the load.
