Backloading involves paying a driver for space in their vehicle for a one-way trip. Your driver may have some extra space leftover from their main delivery, or they might have an empty truck if they’re heading back from their original destination.
Backloading is a lot more affordable, because it splits the cost of travel, especially for interstate deliveries and long-distance removal. Plus, it’s better for the environment because it uses less petrol.
Most backloading vehicles are medium to large trucks that are designed for long-haul journeys, from state-to-state and city-to-city.
Yes. Most backloading services include help with loading your items on and off the truck. Some trucks will also come with trolleys and lifting systems to make this easier.

Your truck driver will take care in loading the items, as well as protecting them with towels, blankets, and packing foam where needed.

Backloading usually costs between $246-$675 when you book your service through Airtasker. But costs will vary, depending on the distance, number/size of items, and whether your driver needs to go out of their way to pick up and deliver.

What do backloading removal services include?

Whether you need long-haul, interstate backloading, or something a little more local, your backloader will start by confirming the details. Then they’ll pick up your items, transport them across the distance, and deliver them to your agreed upon location. Here’s how your backloading service will work:

Step 1: Confirming the details

Because backloading involves adding your items to an existing load or planned delivery service, this step is critical to get right. Your backloader will check that the timing and locations match up with their schedule and that they have enough space to accommodate your items. Then they’ll book the space for you and arrange pick up.

Step 2: Pick up

Picking up your items, ready for backloading, involves carefully labelling each box or item with your name and destination info. This is important, especially when multiple parties are sharing the same delivery space. Your backloader will use a trolley and/or tail lift to help move any heavy items into the truck. They’ll shuffle things around to make sure that everything fits snugly, as well as using blankets and pillows to cushion items and protect them from bumps.

Step 3: Transport & delivery

Your removalist will proceed on their journey to your items’ destination. They may make several stops along the way to pick up and deliver other items, according to their schedule. Once they arrive at your destination, they’ll help unload the items for you (or your recipient) using their trolley and/or tail lift. If you’re not the one receiving the items, they’ll send you a message to let you know they’ve been delivered.
