Why find a local nanny through Airtasker?

Want to be matched with a nanny near you who’ll go above with your kids? Many families are finding that hiring a nanny or au pair is a great alternative to traditional childcare services. Not only will a nanny provide personalised one-on-one care to your children in your home, but if you have more than one child, it can work out to be more cost-effective, too. When you find a nanny near you who fits perfectly with your family’s needs, you’ll enjoy a more flexible lifestyle, whether you need a nanny one day a week, or five.

The best place to find a nanny near you is on Airtasker. With our transparent rating and review system, you can easily compare the best local nannies so you can be confident in finding a reliable, trusted, professional nanny for your kids.

Top Nanny related questions

Friend and family recommendations are common ways to find a good nanny. Unfortunately, personal connections can limit your options. Airtasker offers a solution by connecting you to highly rated nannies near you. Through our transparent ratings and reviews system, you can decide who will best fit your family’s set-up.
Nannies need to be at least 18 years old and have relevant qualifications. These requirements include first aid and CPR certificates, a Working with Children Check, and a National Police Check. What’s more, nannies need a Certificate III, Diploma, or teaching qualification. Otherwise, nannies should be working towards a relevant qualification.
The difference between nanny vs daycare comes down to price. A nanny is much more expensive than daycare. If you struggle to pay for daycare rates, employing a nanny will be even more difficult. Regardless, a nanny can provide one-on-one and more comprehensive child care. Post your nanny request on Airtasker. You just might find a good nanny who can work with your budget.
Nannies and au pairs differ in regulations. Au pairs are young persons (18 - 30 years old) who go abroad to live with a native family to learn the culture in exchange for childcare. What’s more, an au pair works for a maximum number of hours per week. They also receive pocket money from the host family. In contrast, nannies get a salary like any other job. Their working hours are flexible to the family’s requests and are regulated by the country’s labour law.
Nannies do housework related to caring for the children. These basic household chores include cleaning and organising kids’ bedrooms and play areas. Nanny services are flexible to your family needs. If you need extra help around the house, feel free to mention this detail in your Airtasker listing.
Providing food for your nanny is an optional setup. But make sure to align expectations with your nanny before she comes in for work. Some families offer meals for their nannies, while some nannies provide their own meals. The arrangement depends on you and your nanny.

What does a professional nanny service include?

Need to find a nanny near you but don’t know what’s included in the service? While nannies mainly help look after your children, there’s a lot more they can do, as well. Here are some tasks your nanny will help with:

Childcare

Your nanny’s primary role is to take care of your children - ensuring they’re safe and that their basic needs are being met. This includes food, water, hygiene, toileting/nappies, naptime, and more. To ensure your child is safe, most nannies undergo First Aid and CPR training, but they’ll also know when to call parents and 000 in case of an emergency.

Transport

If your nanny has their own car and license, they may help with taking your kids to and from school, swimming lessons, music lessons, play dates, and other activities. As well as this, they’ll help accompany your child where needed and get them ready to go.

Meal prep

Your nanny will prepare meals and snacks for your child at their usual times or pack lunches to take to school. If your child has any special food preferences, intolerances, or allergens, you’ll need to let your nanny know so they can plan accordingly. Some nannies may help with picking up groceries and supplies for meals during their shift, but it will depend on your arrangement.

Development

Many nannies have studied child development and are experienced in working with children of all ages. Your nanny will use their understanding of your child’s development, combined with observation to choose education and play-based activities that support their learning and interests. This might involve outside time, trips to the park, museum or library outings, books, games, and toys. If you have school-aged children, your nanny may also offer basic tutoring for homework and assignments.

Light housework

If your nanny has time, they may also help out with light housework tasks, like packing away toys, folding the washing, cleaning the house, cleaning and disinfecting toys, cleaning the children’s play areas and bedrooms, sterilising bottles, and so on. Usually, any housework your nanny does will closely relate to caring for your children (and cleaning up the messes they make!).
