I have built a prototype motorised trolley / powered backpack base and need help wiring, testing, and tuning the electronics so it runs safely and smoothly. The mechanical chassis and motor mounts are already built. The system is designed to be powered by a Makita 18V battery and drive two wheels using DC gear motors. Current components include: • Makita 18V battery power source • Two 18V DC gear motors (one per wheel) • Motor speed controller • Throttle control • Custom 3D printed chassis • Custom machined wheel shafts (arriving shortly) • Front castor wheels for balance The trolley is designed so I walk beside it and control speed with a throttle while it drives forward. What I need help with: • Wiring the battery safely to the motor controller • Connecting and wiring the motors correctly • Checking polarity and ensuring both motors rotate the correct direction • Ensuring wiring is safe and suitable for the current draw • Tuning the speed controller and throttle response • Testing the trolley and ensuring both wheels run smoothly and evenly • General advice on improving reliability of the system I would also appreciate recommendations on things such as: • Correct wire gauge • Fuse or battery protection • Best connectors for the setup • Any improvements to make the system safer and more reliable The mechanical build is almost complete. Once the final shafts arrive the wheels will be installed and the system will be ready for wiring and testing. Photos and CAD images of the prototype can be provided to explain the layout. Ideal person for this task would have experience with: • DC motor controllers • robotics or hobby electronics • RC vehicles • electric scooters / e-bikes / DIY electric builds This is a prototype project so practical experience is more important than formal qualifications. Happy to discuss the project and provide photos before starting the task.
