Sanding and polishing timber floor

$500

Mike did a wonderful job with our floors and stairs! The finished result is of an extremely high quality. His fees are very competitive and his service professional. He was prompt to respond when communicating regarding the job and kept me informed during the planning and installation process. On the day of installation he arrived on time, there was no fuss. He said the stairs were a little trickier than planned as they were marginally different widths, but he worked through this issue and found a solution, no fuss. He also cleaned and tidied before he left. I wouldn’t hesitate booking Mike for further jobs or recommending his services to anyone. Thanks Mike!

What does a timber floor installation service include?

From installation to repairs and polishing, flooring experts are dedicated to helping you enhance the beauty and functionality of your home. When you book a service on Airtasker, you can expect comprehensive assistance for the following:

Floorboard selection

Are you uncertain which floorboards will best suit your space? Count on your Tasker for expert guidance. Sorting through the plethora of options available can overwhelm you, especially if you're short on time to conduct thorough research. Your Tasker can provide a confident recommendation tailored to your needs.

Area preparation

Before your new floor can be laid, installers must first prepare the area. The underlying floor has to be dry, clean, and stable for the best results. Installers will approach this step depending on the subfloor materials and the type of floorboards. At this stage, all skirting boards, doors, and door frames will also be removed. Finally, timber floorboards will be left to acclimatise as they need to adjust to the room’s temperature and moisture levels to prevent warping and shrinkage.

Timber flooring installation

The installation begins with your Tasker laying out moisture-proofing and insulation materials, which should help reduce noise and regulate the house’s temperature. Once the insulation is in place, they can start installing the new boards. The installation process will vary depending on the material of the boards. Solid timber floors require a substructure, while engineered boards can be laid directly over tiles, concrete or other wooden boards. Installers usually install new boards parallel to the longest length of the room or perpendicular to the front door to get the best visual effect.

Afterwards, they will plan the layout to keep the variations in the timber evenly distributed. They’ll glue or nail your floorboards in place, leaving a small gap around the perimeter for expansion, which they will later cover with skirting boards.

Cutting and shaping

Once the bulk of the floor is laid, the installer will carefully measure, cut and fit smaller board sections around corners, cabinets and doorways. This ensures a seamless finish that perfectly aligns with the overall design.

Timber floor polish and coating

Solid floorboards may need to be sanded to remove any scratches or imperfections and then painted with a high-quality polish to restore their shine. A protective coating will be applied as a final step to seal the wood to make it resistant to wear and tear. It is recommended to have your floors serviced regularly for timber floor polish and coat to maintain their beauty and durability, prolonging their lifespan while keeping them looking new.

Timber flooring repairs and restoration

Over time, wooden floors may sustain damage from various factors such as water spills, furniture scratches and dirt. Minor damage can often be fixed by refinishing the surface with light sanding, a new coat of sealant and polishing. For more extensive structural damage, consult a floor repair specialist to assess and correctly fix the problem.

Remove & Reinstall Timber Decking Boards – Access for Leak Repair

$250

Elwood VIC 3184, Australia

10th Oct 2026

Looking for an experienced handyman or decking specialist to carefully lift a few sections of timber decking on an upstairs balcony to allow our roofing tradesperson access to clean out the gutters and repair a ceiling leak underneath. Scope of work: • Carefully remove the required decking boards (probably about 15-25 slats.) minimising damage wherever possible. • Boards are currently nailed down, so experience removing nailed timber decking is essential. • Allow time for our roofer to access the area and complete the waterproofing repair. • Reinstall and securely fix the original decking boards on the same day once repairs are complete. We understand some minor damage to the timber may be unavoidable, but would like this kept to a minimum, ideally limited to cosmetic damage that can be remedied with sanding and repainting. Important: This job will need to be coordinated with our roofer, so flexibility to work around their repair on the same day is essential. Please only apply if you have experience lifting and reinstating existing timber decking without causing unnecessary damage.

Professional finish coating on eningeered timber floors

$2,000

Travancore VIC 3032, Australia

2nd Aug 2026

Floors are 4 years old. Some chips and scratches I'd like repaired/concealed where possible. I'd like a coating (probably polyurethane type?) that will better protect the floor and last a good while before needing recoating/refinishing again. Current finish appears to be fairly natural/matte or satin. I'd like to go for satin this time for a slightly better and modern look. Area (in metres) Living: 6 x 4 Laundry area: 1.5 x 1.5 Hallway: 4.9 x 1.1 Entry to bedroom 1 x 1.6 I would do it myself but want someone with experience in floor surfacing suck as this to provide the right guidance and excellent products with a professional finish. Photos of areas included. Also added photos of damage/chips scratches.

Fantastic job and great attention to detail sanding and refinishing engineered timber floors in my apartment. Very happy with the result. Great job!
