Top Regrouting related questions

Regrouting is only necessary if there's an issue with your current tile grout. Even with regular cleaning, grout can deteriorate over time, especially if it's continuously exposed to water and moisture. It is vital to repair and replace old and cracked grout right away. If left damaged, it opens an opportunity for the water to seep in and compromise the wall or floor underneath, leading to an even more expensive repair.

Yes, you can. Some essential tools and equipment include a trowel or grout spreader, scraper, tile sponge and cloth, and finishing tools. Since the job can be very messy and dusty, it is best to have safety goggles and masks around as well. You can also request your regrouting expert to drop by the nearest store for any additional supplies, including your grout powder if you do not have them on hand yet.

It should not take too long to regrout tiles. Most of the time, kitchen or shower grout repair takes at least two hours, and another hour to reapply a new one. Expect longer hours of application if you need to regrout larger areas or smaller tiles. The curing time, however, might take a day or two, depending on the type of grout used. Feel free to directly ask your Tasker for a more accurate estimation of the time frame.

No. Regrouting is not a band-aid solution, so you should never apply a new formulation on top of a damaged grout. The new grout will not adhere to the tile edges, resulting in early cracking and deterioration. It will also bring you back to square one, which is a complete waste of time and money. Since you are not getting rid of the stained and discoloured grout, it will still appear underneath and compromise the look of the entire surface.

Regrouting improves the look of grungy tiles instantly without the expense of a tile replacement. So if your tiles still look good and sturdy, it is more practical to regrout them since it will give you the same effect of a beautiful and clean tile surface. If the tiles are already cracked and beyond repairable, or if the panels are already loose or rotten due to old age, a replacement is often more prioritised.

Yes, but with a few limitations. To maximise the benefits of your waterproof membranes, you need to install them across the whole bathroom wall or floor sheet. Waterproofing wetrooms with existing tiles leave a few gaps that will still allow water to penetrate and reach your building face. Whether it’s for new construction or renovation, you can also find an expert waterproofer who can help through our platform.

What do regrouting services include?

Regrouting services cover everything–from old grout removal to grout replacement, as well as cleaning and finishing touches. Regrouting specialists repair and seal damaged tiles in your bathroom, kitchen, as well as living rooms if needed. That way, dirt and grime won't penetrate and eat away the mortar or adhesive, extending the life of your tiles.

In case you're also planning to renovate your bathroom, or in the process of upgrading your kitchen, Taskers can also lend a hand. Apart from grout repair, they can assist in painting the room as well, or installing new furniture.

Old grout removal

Removing old grout is the trickiest part of the entire regrouting process. Without proper training, you could end up cracking the tiles or drilling down the wrong wall, which could result in an even more costly repair. With the help of an expert, you won't have to worry about possible damages.

Usually, they start by making a centre incision. Then, they hand-scrape the old grout using a grout remover or grout rake. If possible, they may also utilise an oscillating multi-tool or an electric grout remover to make things considerably quicker and easier. After effectively removing the old grout, they scrub away the stubborn chunks and finally clean the tile surface using a sponge or damp cloth.

Regrouting tiles

The type of grout to be used depends on your needs and preference. You may opt for the standard one, although you can also explore a different colour. From there, your Tasker applies and pushes your chosen grout into the lines, with a grout float, spreader, or a bucket trowel.

Mostly, the application follows a certain angle or pattern, but this process still rests on your Tasker's techniques and strategies. They reapply all excess grouts into other joints to minimise overall waste.

Final touches

Once the joints and gaps are filled, your regrouting specialist wipes the surface down with a damp sponge to remove grout dust. After the grout has dried and set in place, they finish off by polishing and buffing the face of the tiles with a clean, dry cloth. If you want to give your bathroom or kitchen a makeover without replacing any tiles, you can also get an expert interior painter to assist. Depending on your needs, they can either lighten or darken your tiles using an appropriate paint solution.

After the whole regrouting process, you will notice a lot of excess grout and dust on the floor. At times, they even linger on the window glass, kitchen countertops, or other surfaces. Through our platform, you can also find someone who can clean your area and get rid of all the waste and regrouting residue for you. Upon request, they can do some light vacuuming and wiping to eliminate any unsightly spots and stains.

Balcony Regrouting, Resealing & Waterproofing – Water Leak

$1,000

West End, Brisbane

10th Sep 2026

I’m looking for an experienced tiler/waterproofing professional to fully regrout and reseal my balcony/deck. The existing grout is cracking, and there is water leaking through and seeping out of the external walls. I want the entire balcony/deck regrouted, rather than only repairing the visibly damaged areas, to provide a consistent finish and reduce the risk of untreated existing grout causing further water penetration or problems in the future. Work required: - Remove the existing grout across the entire balcony/deck as required. - Regrout the whole area with suitable, high-quality grout. - Reseal all necessary joints, edges and penetrations. - Ensure the completed work provides a consistent finish and good protection against water penetration. - Clean up and remove any waste from the work. The priority is to properly address the water ingress and provide a durable, consistent result across the whole balcony rather than carrying out isolated patch repairs. Please have experience with balcony regrouting, sealing and waterproofing. EDIT: Added photos EDIT: Some pot plants will need shuffling to get to grout EDIT: Aircon external unit may be too hard to move EDIT: Removed "- Apply appropriate waterproofing/sealing treatment suitable for a balcony/deck exposed to weather."
