Custom timber casements for verandah – local hardwood, quality joinery We’re seeking an experienced carpenter to build and install two banks of operable timber casements (7 solid timber sashes total) for the western side of our small verandah in Woolloongabba. The casements will sit side-by-side above the existing handrail and balustrade, separated by a post. A sketch is attached showing the proportions — similar to traditional Queenslander casements but with solid timber panels instead of glass. Specifications • Casement 1: opening 1800 mm (width ~1790 mm), 4 sashes • Casement 2: opening 1680 mm (width ~1670 mm), 3 sashes + fixed timber infill • Total: 7 operable sashes (approx. 430 mm W × 960 mm H each) • Hinged on the right, opening outward to the left • Simple polished chrome handles (~100–150 mm) • Installation clearance: 10–20 mm • Roof rake from 1140 mm (left) to 1700 mm (right) Materials & Finish Preferably found or repurposed local hardwood (e.g. spotted gum or blackbutt) finished in a natural, UV-resistant oil such as Rubio Hybrid Wood Protector or Osmo UV Extra. The aim is a clean, minimal aesthetic that suits a classic Queenslander verandah. Installation Non-load-bearing; sill fully supported; include standard packing and flashing clearance. Please provide lead time and installation availability — ideally before the summer heat if possible. Approx. $2,500 (including materials and labour), based on similar small-scale joinery projects. I have 4 of these wooden armrests from ikea and I want them cut to fit the square front of the shoe rack like the inspo picture attached. Both the length and width will need to be trimmed. May need a specific saw to get a clean edge? Will then need to be glued onto the shoe rack. Dont need to cut out the hole, I will be attaching new handles.
