What does a car service include?
As a general rule, your car will likely need to be serviced every 6-12 months, depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations. The exact inclusions of your car service and mobile car service will vary depending on how much work is needed on your car. Through Airtasker, you can book some of the popular car services near you, including:
Oil and oil filter change
An oil and oil filter change will help your car run smoothly and increase fuel efficiency. It’s one of the most important parts of a service and should be included in both minor and major services. Your mechanic will find the oil drain plug, loosen and unscrew it, and carefully allow the old oil to drain into a pan. Then they’ll replace and tighten the plug before removing and replacing the filter. Finally, they’ll fill up with fresh oil up to the “full” mark on the dipstick.
Minor car service
A minor service is also known as an interim or basic service. It focuses on changing and topping up fluids and inspecting several components for wear and tear. A minor service includes an oil and filter change; an under-body and under-bonnet inspection; a top-up of all key fluids in the engine, including washer fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze, and steering fluid; and a check of up to 35 key components, such as lights, tyres, and brakes. Most mechanics will also check the manufacturer guidelines and recommend any additional work your car may need.
Major car service
A major service includes all the basic services described above, but will also include an inspection of an additional 15-30 car components to ensure that your vehicle is in the best condition possible. These components can include wheel bearings, shock absorbers, and the air conditioning system. Any parts that need extra work or replacement, such as car batteries or windscreens, will be billed as extra. If you don't have time to bring your vehicle to a mechanic, hire a mobile mechanic to come to your location instead for a major car service.
Model-specific services
If you’re enthusiastic about cars, it might be a good idea to book a mechanic who specialises in your car’s make and model. You can book a car service with a mechanic who specialises in BMW Servicing, Ford Servicing, Holden Servicing, Honda Servicing, Hyundai Servicing, Mazda Servicing, Mercedes Benz Servicing, Nissan Servicing, Peugeot Servicing, Subaru Servicing, Toyota Servicing, and Volkswagen Servicing. They’ll be familiar with the common issues that are likely to come up and will have specific parts available on-hand in case you need a replacement or repair.

Looking for mechanic / car buyer to purchase unregistered Holden car
$10
Waverley NSW, Australia
1st Feb 2026
I have a 2013 Holden Captiva 5 (approx. 120,000km) that I’m looking to sell as-is. It is currently unregistered, has been sitting in a garage for several months, has interior mould, needs a new clutch, has a flat battery, and a bonnet dent. The car has near-new tyres and would suit a mechanic, flipper, or someone wanting a project vehicle. I’m looking at receiving $2500k, with the understanding it needs 2k spending on it and would sell for 5-6k once work is done. Located in Waverley
Toyota Corolla 2013 losing power
$500
Vaucluse NSW, Australia
30th Jan 2026
A friend borrowed my car …asked to top up engine oil as I was overseas. She forgot to put engine oil tank lid back & drove .Oil went all over the place .I cleaned it up but it has gone into sensors.May be MAF sensor .i got diagnostic with me . The P0171 code is a common OBD-II diagnostic trouble code that translates to "System Too Lean (Bank 1)." It indicates that the engine's control module has detected that the air-fuel mixture in the engine's first bank (the side with cylinder #1) has too much air and not enough fuel. Key Causes for P0171: • Vacuum Leaks: Unmetered air is leaking into the engine (most common cause). • Dirty/Faulty MAF Sensor: The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is not accurately measuring incoming air. • Low Fuel Pressure/Delivery: Clogged fuel injectors or a weak fuel pump. • Faulty Oxygen Sensor: The upstream O2 sensor is malfunctioning. Common Symptoms: • Check Engine Light (CEL). • Rough idling or hesitation during acceleration. • Engine hesitates or stalls. • Poor fuel economy. Common Fixes: • Checking for and repairing vacuum leaks (hoses, intake manifold gaskets). • Cleaning or replacing the MAF sensor. • Replacing the bank 1 oxygen sensor. • Checking fuel pressure. Note on "Osito": The search results did not show a specific auto scanner brand called "Osito." The diagnosis provided applies to standard OBD-II scanners (such as Autel or generic scanners). It is recommended to diagnose the code using a scan tool to monitor fuel trim levels (short-term and long-term) to determine if the issue is a vacuum leak (often worse at idle) or a fuel delivery issue (often worse under load).

Install supplied car audio / head unit in BMW X3
Very disappointing experience. The head unit was installed without the sound being tested. After Marwan left, we realized it wasn't working. He has subsequently ignored attempts to contact him and remedy the situation. We confirmed with the manufacturer and a new installer that the aux cable was left unconnected. Be aware that if there is an issue, he may not return to fix it.
