My 2004 Subaru Forester has a VERY flat battery (cannot even lock doors) and is stuck on Belmore Road in Randwick just outside Laverty Pathology in a kerbside parking spot. I attempted to use a jump-starter kit but it has since run out of battery too. I have jumper leads but have been unable to find someone willing to stop & hold up traffic while i connected them. If you have a high powered battery jumper or the willingness to hold up traffic briefly, this job is for you! - Due date: Needs to be done on Thursday, 24 March 2022

Engine diagnostic - Subaru 2002 Impreza

$100

Kingsford NSW, Australia

30th Mar 2021

Hi there, I have a manual Subaru 2002 Impreza GD and it's not a super fancy car but recently, it has started to develop some issues and I need someone to check it out. I am an amateur mechanic (fixing power steering is my limit) but I can help out for sure given that you guide me. The car is $1500 so it might not be worth to put too much money into it but if the fix is reasonable, I will like to recover the car. The $100 I am offering is just for diagnostics and figuring out what it might be. So the problem is as follows: When I start the car, it takes a few seconds longer that it used to. It whirrs (with a scratching noise) for around 1-2 seconds and it never did that before. The starter motor works and it always starts but just takes time. Then the bigger problem is that once its started, there is a thudding noise when I accelerate (at low gears mostly). The top speed is still fine but the acceleration is not good and the car revs much more than it used to at same speeds. About other maintenance: I recently changed the coolant - the cooling is working fine (pump, leaks etc. all good). AC works fine and everything else is good. Fuel economy is also unaffected (at least for now) as its still giving 10 km/L. I'd appreciate any advice/offers. If you are a mechanic who has dealt with this before, I am willing to pay for advice too. I have arbitrarily set my budget because I don't know what the prices are like but if you think I'm offering an unfair price, I am willing to reconsider. I don't mean to undervalue your time, I just want to avoid costs related to going to dealership because they will be higher than the car price itself. Thanks for understanding! :)

Engine (EJ20 Subaru) misfiring diagnostics

$70

Kingsford NSW, Australia

8th Sep 2020

Car: 2002 Subaru Impreza, Engine: 2L non-turbo EJ20 Tranmission: Checked and its fine. Coolant system: Checked and fine. Hi there, So the problem with this engine is quite an intersting one -- When I'm using the car from cold state to drive small distances, it's totally fine. However, when I drive a bit long distance (>50 kms or so), that's when the engine starts to behave weird - the revs start dropping abruptly from 3 to 1.5 and even flooring the pedal does not allow revs to go up. Note: Even though the drop from 3 to 1.5 is abrupt and uncontrollable, the engine does NOT drop to 0 (stall). MY OPINION: No component (spark plugs, fuel pump, air intake, mass flow sensor, fuel filter etc.) is completely dead because (i) the car is perfectly normal most of the times and (ii) even after the revs drop, the engine doesn't stop completely and in fact, it can keep idling endlessly between 1 to 1.5 RPM. EXPERT OPINION: He said that he'd start by checking the charging system voltage and next, he would check fuel pressure once the problems kick in. Another one (mechanic certified) said it could be issues with reprogramming the ECU or some issue with ECU. Request to you: I need someone with fuel pressure gauge and the knowledge to help me diagnose what the problem is exactly. NOTE: My OBDII is not working so that's another challenge! A new fuel pump would cost me $140 but I don't mind spending $70-100 before that just to diagnose and confirm that it is infact, the fuel pump or something else. Perhaps something is just dirty and clogged, I'm not sure. Would appreciate any offers, thanks for your time! [] Date is flexible, whenever you have time. [] Location: I can drive to your place.
