1974 Jaguar S2 XJ6, since pulling and reinstalling the engine over a few months, have lost spark in my ignition system Distributer is a Lucas- Constant Energy Ignition - 45DM6 This system is paired with an Amplifier and a vacuum retard STORY** Car was running well before full engine rebuild. Since then I am unable to get spark. I have replaced the coil with a new one and have the correct resistance. I have 12V on both positive and negative of coil. This ignition system uses a 6 point magnetic star to disrupt the circuit in the distributer as opposed to traditional points. When short circuiting the primary low voltage system using a test light between the negative coil terminal and (either the positive or negative) wire between the dizzy and the amp... I get spark at a plug. So there is obviously power getting to the primary low voltage circuit, and when I short the low voltage circuit (and with the dizzy arm at a plug) I get spark at the plug, so the coil and high voltage circuit works, meaning that what is at fault is a component that interrupts the low voltage circuit (which is what fires the coil high voltage circuit). So either the magnetic star in the distributor isn't correctly registering to interrupt the circuit to fire the coil OR the Amp isn't working (which to my understanding is what actually breaks the circuit when it receives the signal from the magnetic star 'points'). The amp I've read can be repaired and I have seen and will provide a wiring diagram for the amp. If you're an auto electrician or are familiar with distributers then what I'm saying should make sense and there might be an easy fix somewhere. Auto-electrics not my strength, I'd rather give the task to someone more experienced who can go through and test, identify and possibly repair and save myself time and having to buy a new $500 AMP (if that's the issue) Located CARLINGFORD 2118
