Why hire a sound system installation specialist through Airtasker?
Airtasker gives you a fast, convenient, yet reliable option for putting up your home’s surround sound system. When you have a Tasker take care of this highly-technical job, you get someone with experience, expertise, and the customer reviews to back it up. You won’t have to dig through so many tutorials and manuals, only to risk doing it wrong.
What’s more, your Tasker can customise their rate to tailor-fit your budget, and they’re likely within the neighbourhood. That means there’s a better chance of having your request attended to ASAP instead of waiting a week or two for an appointment with a sound installation company.
To start requesting a home sound installation service via Airtasker, select the “Post a task” button on this page. Fill out the form, tap “Get quotes”, and wait for the offers to pop up. From here, you can view the Taskers’ rates, plus their customer reviews. Once you’ve found the one you like, simply confirm your appointment. And that’s it! You’re now one step closer to experiencing surround sound at home.

No, you won’t need to provide your tools or equipment. This service saves you from the hassle of researching what they’ll need or buying wire cutters and drills. Like all our other assembly services, your Tasker arrives with all the necessary tools for setting up your home sound system. Just provide the speakers and other components, point to where you want your theatre set up, and they’ll get right to work.
As a rule of thumb, bigger is better when it comes to home theatres. Some experts recommend living rooms that are 6m x 4.5m, with high ceilings. But if you don’t have a room like this in your house (or have a multi room set-up in mind), just inform your Tasker. This also helps them figure out, ahead of time, how to best install your home sound system.
This would highly depend on the complexity of the surround sound system you want to be installed. Taskers usually take around four hours to complete a job. For a better estimate of how long your Tasker will need, it’s best to be specific in your task post. You can ask through your task post or once you’ve confirmed your appointment.
Usually, yes. To make sure that this is part of their quote, you can also specify this in your task post. Surround sound system installers usually use cord organisers, crown mouldings, tape wire, and other nifty tools to keep your surround sound wires tidy. If you have preferences about how you want your cables to be arranged, simply consult your Tasker. They can help you make sure that you have an aurally and aesthetically-pleasing home theatre.

What do surround sound system installation services include?
Our surround sound installation service includes setting up components like speakers and amplifiers, connecting them to your favourite program source or entertainment box, running wires around the room, and even concealing them afterwards. Take note that the specific inclusions may vary depending on the Tasker you’re working with. But in general, here’s what you can expect when you book a sound system installation via Airtasker:
Home theatre set-up: Selecting a spot for speakers
Usually, this depends on where your source and seating are placed. A centre speaker goes right below the source (TV, DVD player, cable box, etc.). The front speakers go 5-10 feet away from the source. Lastly, the surround speakers are placed behind the left and right parts of your couches or seats. If you have more components in your sound system, such as subwoofers and amplifiers, you can ask your Tasker for assistance in choosing the best spots for each one.
Preparing to mount the speakers and receiver
The Tasker then picks a spot behind where you plan to install the receiver. This receiver is the centre of your surround sound system - it sends video signals to your TV and sends the audio to a decoder. The decoder then sends out the “sound signals” to each of your speakers. Ideally, your Tasker will use a stud-finder so that it’s easier to hang the speakers later on.
But if your chosen location doesn’t have a stud, they can simply use wall anchors for mounting the component. Please make sure that both you and your Tasker are satisfied with the placement of each component before they start drilling holes or making cuts in your walls.
Running the wires
Once the speaker locations are set, your sound system installer will drill holes into the wall and run the wires from each speaker to the receiver. After this, they may do some work to conceal the cables. This keeps your home theatre neat and tidy and helps avoid accidents such as tripping on or wearing down wires.
Installing the speakers and receiver
Your Tasker then puts up each speaker or component. They may use drywall anchors to mount them, or simply use the studs in your wall. Afterwards, they’ll put up the low-voltage cut-in box for the receiver. This can be left on display or ask your Tasker to put up a cover plate with a hole. Once the speakers are installed, your Tasker connects each speaker to the appropriate connector in the receiver.
Testing your sound system
Now, it’s time to test your new home sound system! Plug the receiver into your source (DVD player, cable box, or TV) using an HDMI or optical cable. Connect the power. Then, test your system. And that’s it! Once you’re happy and satisfied with your surround sound system installation, your Tasker packs up their tools and lets you enjoy your brand-new home theatre.
