Sewing lined footwear panels

I have a custom made mask and the zipper got stuck on some of the fabric because the mask fabric was meant to cover the zip but eventually the left side of the slider penetrated through the fabric and then got permanently stuck so I cut up the fabric between the mask and zipper a little bit and that let the zipper move again but I don’t believe that’s a viable solution. I was hoping the zipper and/or fabric of the mask could be amended or replaced so that the zip works normally again and smoothly closes the mask
