What does landscaping include?

When you book your landscaper, it’s important to let them know in your task exactly what work you need to be done. That way, they’ll be able to make you a fair offer and bring along the right tools for the job.

Not sure where to start? If you need a range of general landscaping services, grab a notepad and pen, then go for a wander outside. Make a note of anything that needs tidying up, trimming, or removing. Then make sure you include these tasks in your listing.

Another way to think about your landscaping is to break it down by the type of specialised skill or service you need. Here are some of the jobs you might give to your landscaper and what you can expect to happen during the process.

Planning

When you’re undertaking a BIG change, it’s important to lay the groundwork with some planning, first. A garden designer will help come up with ideas and map everything out on paper before you get started. Or you might hire a landscape architect to plan a larger commercial landscaping project in your local community or public space.

Earth and rocks

Don’t break your back over your backyard landscaping - no matter how little or how much you need to do. You can hire earthmoving contractors to do your trench digging, levelling, and even your pool excavation or boring excavation. They’ll bring the all tools and equipment needed to dig and move the earth so you (literally) don’t have to get your hands dirty.

Gardens

Planning a nice new garden bed to grow your own veggies, flowers, shady trees, or just want to reduce the amount of ground you have to mow? Get some help with your garden landscaping and garden edging to get the project off your to-do list and done sooner. That way, you can get on with the fun bit - planting!

Water

Where there are plants, there’s water. Make sure your plants get water when they need it (without having to remember to hose) with a drip irrigation system or a sprinkler system installation. Or make your garden more beautiful with a garden pond or water features. Either way, getting your water systems sorted is so much quicker and easier with an extra pair of hands or a landscaper near you who knows what they’re doing.

Trees

Trees are wonderful things, but sometimes, a tree’s gotta go. If you’re not experienced, you should never do chainsawing, stump grinding, wood chipping and mulching, or land clearing yourself. That’s something you should leave up to an experienced landscaper with the right equipment and background to get the job done properly and safely.

Building and installations

A big component of landscaping is installing things to make your space more functional and beautiful. Things like retaining walls, artificial turf, landscape lighting or even garden benches to sit on. It’s always best to get a landscaper to help when it involves heavy lifting or specialist equipment. They’ll help you get your installations done safely and help you start enjoying your space much sooner.

Hey there airtaskers, I have a big heap of tree mulch in the front yard and I need some moved to the back yard and spread around. This would be first part of some further garden work for maybe two to four jobs if keen&works out?? Person would need own wheelbarrow/cart&any other needed equipment. Am flexible on day/time. No pics. Thanks, Bec

Landscaping/gardening 1 days work

$500

Chapel Hill QLD 4069, Australia

19th Oct 2020

Need a number of jobs done around our property. I estimate this to take a full day. 1. Dig/fix footing for gabion cages and position 5 cages on bank. Needs to be level/symmetrical. Cages are already on the bank in position as I attempted this myself but they are not sitting correctly. 2. Put lid on 5 gabion cages and move down the hill approx. 50m. Moving trolley provided. 3. Empty soil out of 4 wicking beds (they are half full with soil) and move soil to another garden bed approx. 10m away. Approx 1 cube of dirt. 4. Plant approx 50 new small plants in bank. Bank will need weeding/tidying first. Plants and potting mix provided. 5. Spread small mound of dirt down bank. Approx 3 barrows worth. Dirt is already on top of bank just to be racked down/out. 6. Move large tree log. Can literally be thrown/rolled to the side out of the way. Flexible with date.

Landscape - dig and line a pond

$210

The Gap QLD, Australia

24th Nov 2020

Task is for two people to dig and profile a pond. All pond materials are already here. Just need your expertise and physical work. We already have some liner in place but need to back fill and profile the pond. The soil needs to be dug out, mixed with mortar and filled back in. The pond has been dug with an excavator so the basic shape is ready. The liner has been cut and partially installed (to stop the walls collapsing). We also have some heavy rocks to line the edges with. So physical strength and fitness is a bonus. See photos. The job will be hard work and fiddly. I would prefer someone that has experience with EPDM pond liner. Someone with experience digging water ways. Someone with handy work experience is a bonus. I really want someone who will be attentive to my vision for how the pond should look. Also someone who will take care not to damage the existing to liner. First job will be to clean out the liner and junk. Then dig a “shelf” profile around the edges. I will be nearby and probably give you annoying & constant suggestions. Please understand this is an ongoing project for me :) Bring your own tools (shovels, wheelbarrow, mattock, something to mix mortar and soil in. We are budgeting $35per person ($70/hour for a team of two). And about 3 hours. Happy to work by the hour. If we get too close to budget may extend. Or “wrap up” at a nice point. I.e you don’t have to worry, you won’t be out of pocket because of my changes and suggestions. I’ll pay for every hour you are here. Even if we don’t have enough time/money to finish the job. So please quote your hourly rate (for your whole team).

Massive effort. Worked really efficiently and we got a great result. Great communication and worked with us to find a suitable time. Also had great ideas about how to make the job easier and the finished pond look better. Thanks for you help!
