Cleaning help (including mould.)

€100

Rathmines Great, Dublin

16th Aug 2024

My mother-in-law is coming and we need help finishing the deep-clean we’ve had to do on moving into our new home. At least one of us will be around to guide you on what we need help with (we’ll probably be doing our own jobs too!) We need to finish cleaning the walls in 3 rooms, cabinet fronts in one room, and whole cabinet in another room. We seem to have a bit of mould on top of cabinets, in bathroom, and possibly on one bedroom ceiling. I am pregnant so can’t use any harsh chemicals but the mould is setting off my allergies and making me sick! (you are welcome to use gentle agents to clean if you’ll be successful!) We have: - Bleach, normal and thickened - natural bathroom cleaner - white vinegar - dettol spray - windex equivalent - spin scrubber with attachments - sponge-scourers - microfibre cloths. -bucket and spray mop. Please let us know which of these, if any, you’d like to use, or if you’d prefer to bring your own materials. Two-hour job, happy to negotiate by the hour or half-hour beyond that if needed. No vacuuming or mopping needed (unless you have the magic solution for the grout on the kitchen and bathroom floors! We did try) Please advise on response how long the job is likely to take you. Type of clean: End of lease Number of bedrooms: 2 Number of bathrooms: 1 Equipment and supplies: I can provide

Top Mould Removal related questions

The easiest mould to spot is called mildew. This often appears in black clusters that spread and discolour surfaces. You might also notice a musty smell if there’s mould in your home, which can be caused by invisible mould spores.

Mould can trigger allergies, especially for people with a weakened immune system or underlying health conditions, such as asthma. Airborne mould in your home can also put you at a greater risk of respiratory infections.

Most shop-bought mould cleaners only fade or bleach the mould without fully removing it, which means it’s likely to return. When you hire a professional for mould removal, they use the correct safety equipment and high-quality products to provide a more lasting solution.

Specialist mould treatments typically involve using a solution that is both safe and effective. Other methods can include steam cleaning, fogging, or gas treatments.

While there are no specific laws that prevent the sale of a property with mould, it will likely be much harder to find a buyer and secure a good offer. For rental properties, landlords are responsible for ensuring the property is kept in a reasonable state of repair and meets health and safety requirements, which includes undertaking repairs in a timely manner.

The cost of hiring a mould removal specialist near you will depend on the size and complexity of the job, materials needed, and the Tasker's experience level. Prices can vary quite a bit from one job to the next, so it's worth getting a few quotes before committing.

Post your task for free to receive quotes from local Taskers and find the best fit for your budget.

What does a mould cleaning service include?

A mould removal expert will assess your home or commercial property for visible mould and test for airborne spores. Next, they’ll take appropriate measures to permanently remove your mould. Here’s what you can expect, depending on the type of mould removal service you need:

Black mould removal

Black mould (or mildew) is the most common type of mould you’ll find in your home. It appears as black clusters that spread if not removed. Your mould removal specialist will look for it in damp areas, like your bathroom ceiling or in the shower. They’ll use products that permanently remove mildew from surfaces in your home, rather than just lighting or bleaching it.

Fabric mould removal

Mould on your couch, curtains, or clothes can be tricky to get out on your own, especially if you don’t want to cause permanent damage. Your mould removal expert will assess the type of mould that’s growing, before choosing products that will work to remove it without damaging your upholstery or clothing. In some cases, they may use an industrial steam cleaning system to kill the mould, but they may also use other products to remove the mould and prevent regrowth.

Carpet mould removal

Mould can build up in your carpets. Even if you can’t see it, your carpet may have mould if it starts to smell musty. Carpet cleaning can remove mould from your carpeted areas (and provide other benefits, too). Your mould removal expert will likely use a steam-cleaning system on your carpets, before using a special mould inhibitor to treat the affected areas and stop it from coming back.

Air purification

Finally, if you suspect there’s an issue with air quality - particularly if your home is damp, humid, or lacking in airflow - you can call in a mould removal expert for help. They’ll test the air quality in your home and check for invisible mould spores in the air. They’ll use gas or fogging treatment to remove active mould spores from your air. Plus, they’ll clean your air conditioning unit to remove any built-up mould and stop it from circulating. Air purification not only removes mould but can help control odours and prevent respiratory infections and allergies from poor quality air.
