Skirting board materials and tools
Just like with any other construction job, you’ll need materials and tools. Your tradesman takes care of buying the skirting boards, depending on what you specified in the task post in terms of length and height. In case you don’t have anything in mind yet, they may stop by your location first, do a bit of measuring, then go to your local hardware.
They also arrive with the necessary tools in tow. These include a coping saw, ear muffs, safety glasses, a nail gun, a tape measure, and a hammer. If you already have some of these materials at home, you could ask your tradesman to bring only the ones that aren’t in your toolbox. It all depends on your preference and what your skirting board service requires.
Fitting or installing skirting boards
Your tradesman begins by measuring each part of the wall and marking the skirting boards. They’ll cut the boards at 45-degree angles, then cut the scribed joint. The scribed joint makes sure that the boards line up nicely at the corners of the room.
Then, they cut the skirting board at 90-degree angles on both ends and start attaching it to the wall. They’ll take the board with the scribed joint, cut it to size, then push it against this first skirting board. Once they’re happy with the fit, your tradesman attaches it to the first board.
After that, it’s pretty much the same process all around the room - or every room in your house.
Redoing skirting boards
Skirting boards protect your wall from wear and tear, so you’ll inevitably have to redo them after years of living in your home. This process is pretty much the same as installation, except that your tradesman has to remove the current skirting boards first. This involves removing any cables or obstructions, breaking the plaster, removing the skirting boards, and getting rid of nails and screws. It’s a rather tedious process, so it’ll take longer and possibly cost more compared to starting in a bare room.
Working with skirting boards can get pretty messy, so it’s advisable to get after-builders cleaning to tidy up your house afterwards. Don’t tire yourself picking up after your handymen or construction workers - get cleaning experts to do it instead!

Looking for a handyman or carpenter to install an internal folding door (Australian Folding Doors brand) in a doorway in my home office. The door kit is already purchased and comes with installation instructions. The job will involve: • Installing the folding door track to the top of the doorway frame • Mounting the folding door panels and brackets • Installing the receiving channel on the opposite side of the doorway • Ensuring the door opens and closes smoothly One additional task required: There are skirting boards on both sides of the doorway that currently prevent the door from sitting flush against the wall when opened. These will need to be neatly cut/trimmed back so the folding door can sit flat against the wall. The door system installs by fixing the track to the underside of the door frame and attaching the starter brackets to the vertical jambs, as shown in the manufacturer guide.  Tools likely required: • Drill/driver • Rivet gun (or rivet attachment) • Saw or multi-tool for trimming skirting • Basic carpentry tools Door opening is standard internal doorway size. Hi all I had a one bedroom apartment in Surfers Paradise that needs hybrid flooring and skirting boards installed. https://www.onlineflooringstore.com.au/product/eclipse-valhalla-hybrid-baldur/ - this is the flooring that I have purchased. I need the flooring installed in a kitchen, living area and bedroom. I think this is about 48sqm. Given that it is hybrid flooring we also need skirting boards installed. I'm after someone that can do this as well. The apartment is in an apartment complex on level 12 with loft access. There is also a car park in the basement that can be used. I don't have an exact date yet for this to be done, but I expect it to be around the first half of February 2026. Currently there is carpet, I have not yet removed this. If this is something you could do let me know, otherwise I can arrange for it to be done prior. I am unsure of the price, so please let me know what you think and of course a site inspection will likely be needed. If your interested please let me know and we can arrange a site inspection.
