Airtasker’s puppy training service includes the necessary skills or habits that are useful to cultivate in your pet. These are things that are typically included in puppy obedience classes, except that in the case of Airtasker, the trainer will come right to your door.  

This service is incredibly helpful if you want to train your pet for things specific to your house, such as potty training in the yard. While training philosophy and methods can vary depending on the Tasker you choose, here’s what you can expect from a puppy training specialist on Airtasker: 

Basic commands & focus

Training usually begins with teaching your dog basic cues such as “Sit”, “Stay”, and “Come”. Your trainer also teaches your puppy to focus and establishes that good behaviour results in treats and other rewards. These help your puppy understand the significance of commands and training time. 

Potty and crate training

Your puppy trainer can help you establish a designated potty spot for your pet, and train them to understand this. They’ll also help you build a routine for your puppy’s toilet habits. 

If you’d like to crate train your puppy, your trainer will teach your pet to go to the crate whenever it’s bedtime, or when you’re about to go out. Ideally, your pet should see their crate as a safe and comforting space of their own.

Socialisation to touch

Your puppy trainer also teaches your pet to be comfortable being touched and handled. This is particularly important for dogs who lack confidence, or for rescued dogs who must learn to associate touch with love instead of punishment. 

Socialisation to vet and groomer procedures

Once your pet is comfortable with pets and cuddles, they’ll also need to be comfortable being handled. Your Tasker may also try familiarising your pet with tools like nail clippers, a toothbrush, or shears. This kind of training will keep your pet calm and safe at the vet and groomer. 

Toy and mat training

Puppies and dogs have a lot of energy, and it’s essential to teach them how to use it properly. Toy training can be especially helpful for teething puppies, who’ll want to bite and gnaw at everything from chair legs to phone cables. In older dogs, having a trusty toy to chew on can keep them calm while you’re out.

Mat training teaches dogs to stay calm while waiting for a cue. It’s a great way to teach puppies to remain calm and to help nervous dogs relax.  

Reshaping unwanted behaviour

Your trainer may also notice some undesirable behaviours in your pet and can help them unlearn these. This is useful if you’ve brought home an older pup or have had a hard time training your pooch yourself.
