What does landscaping include?
When you book your landscaper, it’s important to let them know in your task exactly what work you need to be done - from simple maintenance services to a complex landscape design for your outdoors. That way, they’ll be able to make you a fair offer and bring along the right tools for the job.Â
Not sure where to start? If you need a range of general landscaping services, grab a notepad and pen, then go for a wander outside. Make a note of anything that needs tidying up, trimming, or removing. Then make sure you include these tasks in your listing.Â
Another way to think about your landscaping is to break it down by the type of specialised skill or service you need, such as installing a water feature or irrigation system, designing garden beds, or planning the landscape of your pool area. Here are some of the jobs you might give to your landscaper and what you can expect to happen during the process.
Planning
When you’re undertaking a BIG change, it’s important to lay the groundwork with some planning first. A garden designer will help come up with ideas and map everything out on paper before you get started on your garden space makeover. Or you might hire a landscape architect to plan a larger commercial landscaping project in your local community or public outdoor space.
Earth and rocks
Don’t break your back over your backyard landscaping - no matter how little or how much you need to do. You can hire earthmoving contractors to do your trench digging, levelling, and even your pool excavation or boring excavation. They’ll bring the all tools and equipment needed to dig and move the earth so you (literally) don’t have to get your hands dirty.
Gardens
Planning a nice new garden bed to grow your own veggies, flower beds, shady trees, or just want to reduce the amount of ground you have to mow in your yard? Get some help with your garden landscaping and garden edging to get the project off your to-do list and done sooner. That way, you can get on with the fun bit in landscaping - planting!
Water
Where there are plants, there’s water. Make sure your plants get water when they need it (without having to remember to hose) with a drip irrigation system or a sprinkler system installation. Or make your garden more beautiful with a garden pond or water features. Either way, getting your water systems sorted is so much quicker and easier with an extra pair of hands or a landscaper near you who knows what they’re doing.
Trees
Trees are wonderful things, but sometimes, a tree’s gotta go. If you’re not experienced, you should never do chainsawing, stump grinding, wood chipping and mulching, or land clearing yourself. That’s something you should leave up to an experienced landscaper with the right equipment and background to get the job done properly and safely.Â
Building and installations
A big component of landscaping is installing things to make your space more functional and beautiful. Things like retaining walls, artificial grass installation, landscape lighting, or even garden benches to sit on. It’s always best to get a landscaper to help when it involves heavy lifting or specialist equipment. Garden landscapers can help you get your installations done safely and help you start enjoying your space much sooner.

Landscaping
$15
MacGregor QLD 4109, Australia
19th Aug 2026
I have roughly around 15 x 3 x 0.04 m area to fill soil and grass. Approx 1k budget depending on discussion Scope of Work Prepare and turf an area approximately 15 m × 3 m (45 m²). The work includes: * Supply and spread approximately 40 mm depth of suitable turf underlay/topsoil over the entire area (approximately 1.8 m³, allowing extra for settlement/wastage is recommended). * Fill any low or uneven areas as required to achieve a smooth and even finished level. * Grade the soil appropriately to ensure good surface drainage and avoid water pooling. * Lightly compact and prepare the turf underlay to provide a firm, even base. * Supply and install approximately 45 m² of turf/grass over the prepared area. * Lay turf tightly with neat joints and properly cut edges. * Lightly roll/press the turf after installation to ensure good contact with the soil underneath. * Water the turf thoroughly immediately after installation. * Remove and dispose of any excess soil, turf offcuts and associated waste. * Leave the work area clean and tidy upon completion. Approximate area: 15 m × 3 m = 45 m² Average turf-underlay depth: 40 mm Approximate soil required: 1.8 m³ minimum (around 2.0–2.2 m³ may be ordered to allow for compaction and minor levelling).

Earthworks in the backyard
$1,200
Woolloongabba QLD 4102, Australia
13th Aug 2026
The main priority is to level out a mound of dirt that is in the backyard leftover from a pool installation that we had done. My guess the pile is about 10-15 cubic metres. It is on the lowest level of the property shown in the attached photos. There are different levels to the property (1m drop each retaining wall) and there is a tight section past some steps. I think it is 1700mm at the post and 1400mm where the landing is in the photos. There is also a bit of a driveway as shown in the photos. The other items that we would like to get done, is to get ready for turf to be installed. We can do the final prep but just doing the bulks for us. Thinking it would require removal of say 50mm of the current ground and replace with a topsoil. - Top level (next to pool) - Take a slight cut to level out the land with any excess cut to go to the lower level. We have already removed the concrete that was there. - Lower level - distribute the soil pile across the lower level as best as possible. - Both levels - transfer undersoil turf from front of house to each level and distribute. We can get the soil and do any final levelling by hand. We are based at a private residence in Woolloongabba. Happy to do on an hourly rate
Amazing work thanks Sam
