What do kids’ tutoring services include?

Kids’ tutoring services include all the necessary tasks to ensure your kids develop or improve their skills in the 3 R’s of education - reading, writing, and arithmetic. This can include sitting down with you, the kids’ parents, and drafting their learning objectives. Whether you prefer having lessons face to face or getting online lessons  for your kid, here’s what you can expect:

Setting learning objectives

Before tutoring your kids, your tutor will ask you which subjects they need help in mastering. Once they know which topics they need to develop or improve, your hired tutor can make a personalised syllabus that contains all the essential lessons they must learn and master. Your kids’ tutor can also use the syllabus to track their progress.

Teaching the 3 R’s

Your private tutor for kids can teach your children the 3 Rs of education - reading, writing and arithmetic. They can teach them these basic foundations of knowledge, equipping them with the skills necessary to expand their knowledge as they advance in school.

Your tutor can use a mix of different techniques like using flashcards for maths, giving out worksheets, showing instructional videos, and using other learning aids. They can also read along with your child if necessary and appropriate for their maths and English lessons.

Help with homework

As your kid will likely have homework assigned to them, your private kids’ tutor can help them complete their assignments. Note that the tutor won’t give your kids the answers but rather teach them the skills necessary to arrive at the correct answers themselves. Your tutor can help your kids practice these skills until they can do their homework alone.

Learning through play

The tutors who use this method understand that younger learners have a lot of energy to burn, have individual learning styles, and shorter attention spans. When appropriate, your kids’ tutor can introduce new lessons to younger students by combining them with games.

They can use songs, rhyming, role-playing, toys and other materials and techniques to make learning sessions more fun and encouraging for kids to learn and absorb their lessons outside the classroom.

Tests and pop quizzes

Your tutor can give a short quiz after each lesson and check if your kid has absorbed the lessons. They can also provide a final exam that covers all the lessons towards the end of the service. If your child scores low on the tests, your tutor can use them to pinpoint which areas they need improvement. Your hired tutor can redo the appropriate lessons, give a new test and again check your kid’s performance.

The tutor can repeat this process until they improve and reach their learning objectives. So after your kids have had their tutoring, why not hire a tutor for yourself? With our platform, not only can your kids do better at school, but you can also find tutors to help you advance your career

Weekend tutor, one hour for primary aged kids

Ivanhoe VIC, Australia

8th Jul 2015

My two boys could do with some help with their handwriting- 7 year old- and spelling- 9 year old. They resist working with us, their parents, so we figured someone coming in for an hour on a weekend would be a way of making this less negotiable. We would like it to be quite fun and don't think it needs full teacher style skills. We'd expect you to oversee some basic writing tasks and are open to suggestion about how you might approach this. We live in Ivanhoe and would like it to be here at our place for an hour on a weekend. This might be a good job for a high school leaver or student in the area.

Chiara is fantastic. She is punctual, kind and doing exactly what we asked. We could not ask for better. Highly recommended.

Teach my child to read 2hr 3x a week

Reservoir VIC, Australia

23rd Aug 2015

Isobel is a 13 year old with learning difficulties. She is keen to learn to read but requires high repetition and patience to progress. We need someone to spend 2hrs 3 times a week from 4pm to 6pm to help her progress. The key quality required is patience and a desire to see a child achieve their full potential.

Claire was prompt, competent and enthusiastic. She approached the challenge on teaching Isobel with a level of commitment that is to be commended.
