Top Furniture Repair related questions

Should I repair my furniture or replace it?

If your furniture is high quality, part of a set, or has sentimental value, restoring it is probably your best option. You’ll likely save money and it’s better for the environment, too.

What are some of the most common furniture repairs and breakages?

Upholstered furniture tends to wear thin and get holes over time, while wooden furniture (like tables and chairs) is prone to scratching and broken legs.

Do you need any specific qualifications to repair furniture?

Anyone can repair furniture. However, many people who work with furniture have completed carpentry or cabinet making apprenticeships and are experienced in working with a range of materials, from wood to leather.

How long does a furniture repair service take?

Basic furniture repairs could take as little as 30 minutes, but major repairs (particularly involving upholstery repairs or refinishing wood) can take several days.

Will you repair my furniture onsite or offsite?

Simple furniture repairs can be done onsite. However, for restorations that take more time or require special equipment, your repairer may complete the job offsite.

How much do furniture repairs cost?

The average cost of furniture repairs is between $50-$120 when you book your service through Airtasker. However, this will depend on the type of furniture, the number of pieces, the skills involved, and how long it’ll take to finish the job.

What does a furniture repair service include?

Furniture repairs include a mixture of woodworking and upholstery skills, depending on the type of furniture and fix. Most of the time, your repair person will come to your home, but if they need more time or equipment to complete your repair, they may take your furniture home with them. Here are some of the most popular furniture repair services:

Bed repairs

Common problems for beds include broken slats, scratched wood, and broken frames. Or you might need a cot repair to sand and repaint your old cot so it’s fresh and ready for a new baby. Your bed repairer or sofa bed repairer will assess the damage before explaining your options. Then they’ll use things like glue, spare parts, sanding paper, stain, and paint to help your bed look its best.

Wardrobe, cupboard & drawer repair

Kitchen cupboard and kitchen drawer repair may involve replacing drawer tracks and hinges or painting and sanding. Wardrobe repairs usually depend on whether it’s a freestanding or built-in wardrobe. Common issues include broken doors, shelving, hinges, and door tracks. However, for more advanced repairs, you may need to find a cabinet maker.

Couch & upholstery repair

Upholstery repair is one of the most commonly requested types of furniture restorations. From sunken couch cushions to ripped fabric, most couches start to look a bit shabby before you’re really ready to move on. Your lounge repair might include stain removal, restitching, repairing broken feet or frames, or replacing webbing, zips, foam, or springs. Recliner repairs may also include fixing or replacing parts like motors, electrical bits, cables, levers, footrests, and more. Or if you need leather furniture repaired, your technician may be able to fix issues like fading, scratches, tears, and peeling.

Table, desk & chair repair

You can get all sorts of tables fixed, from dining tables to table lamp repair and coffee table repair. Most tables are made from wood, with common repairs including re-attaching broken legs, sanding, and staining. If you need an office chair repaired, your handyman may look at replacing key parts, like armrests, wheels, and levers, while dining chair repairs normally involve reupholstering, fixing broken legs, sanding, and staining.

Minor furniture repairs and furniture cleaning

$500

Brisbane City QLD, Australia

14th Jun 2020

Im claiming insurance against a removalist company after a recent change in cities. The main tasks are: - repair ripped under seat fabric of a dining room chair. Its not the leather, but the thin black lining material on the under side that has been torn away from the staples. - remove stickers from various items of furniture. The company has used really cheap stickers to label my stuff during the move. When trying to remove the stickers they tear and leave most of the sticker on wood, metal, plastic, etc. This then takes me 10 to 15 minutes of fingernail work to remove them. I need a professional to clean them off with a better technique then I can think of. Suitable chemical? Specialised tool? Im guessing but there is maybe 30-40 of these to remove. - clean two white dining room chairs. They have been stained during the move. The material I'm sure is not genuine leather but a synthetic. I will need a written quote to submit to insurance before the work can commence. Thanks

Rubber shock mounts have corroded over time and failed. One has completely gone and the other is on its way to breaking. I need someone experienced with this type of fix to replace the shock mounts in the arms. I have the parts, but you’ll need to have access to the right resin (two part resin epoxy glue) to attach the new shock mounts. You’ll also need to remove the remains of the old shock mounts. Please see photos and there’s also a video on YouTube showing how to fix it. Just search “How to restore and Eames chair with broken arm rest” (can’t post the link here).

I need someone with relevant trade / repair background to repair some legs on a new sofa. There are wooden legs that screw into a metal plate on the sofa base. The manufacturer has attached the metal plates on crooked which is making the legs crooked. The plate will need to be removed and re-attached so it's perfectly level and the legs will then be straight.

Max was quick and efficient. Would happily use again and recommend.
