Top Car Welding related questions

The uses of car welding include the repair of electrical and wiring issues, cracks, rust, dents, and other vehicle damage.
A car welding specialist uses high heat to repair damaged cars by joining metal together or filling and repairing holes due to collision or wear and tear. Car welding is a specific skill in the range of services offered by car mechanics.

The common types of car welding services for auto repair are stick welding, MIG welding, and TIG welding. Keep in mind that each welding technique is different, and some are less expensive than others. Your welding expert can help you determine which welding method best suits your car repair needs.

Car welding costs may vary depending on several factors such as parts needed, labour time, and the extent of car damage. Naturally, more extensive welding will entail higher costs. Post a task on Airtasker today to get a free estimate from car welding experts near you. Whether you require major or minor car welding services, you can find taskers who fit your budget.

What do car welding services include?

Vehicle frame welding is a common solution for severe dents and warped parts caused by a collision. A car mechanic will cut out the damaged surface and weld new pieces into your vehicle frame. Frame welding usually involves thicker metal parts, and stick welding car panels is the most common method for this type of repair. By hiring one of our highly skilled car mechanics, you can be sure the job will be done correctly.

Wheel Welding

Wheel welding is a service you might need to repair cracks on your wheels. Deep potholes are the usual culprit for cracked metal wheels. These cracks can cause quick tire air loss, which can be a huge inconvenience for a driver. A welding expert is likely to use a TIG welder to repair cracked wheels, which are usually made from aluminium.

Wing Welding

Wing welding is a welding service involving the repair of rips or tears caused by a collision. A MIG welder is a suitable tool for replacing damaged car panels.

Rust Repair

Rust repair is the process of restoring car surfaces damaged by rust. A welding expert can easily remove and replace rusty surfaces, which weaken a car’s panelling.

Typically, there are two ways to repair rust on car body panels: cutting out the damaged section and welding in a patch panel or replacing the entire panel.

Car repair shops usually opt for the latter method since it requires less time and labour than repairing the rust. However, a full panel replacement will cost more money. For minor damages, repairing the rust and welding in a patch panel is a more cost-efficient option. You can save money by hiring a skilled welder who can repair rust on body panels for you.

Replace Trailer suspension (welding required)

$500

Kedron QLD 4031, Australia

28th Apr 2026

I have a Conqueror UEV310 camper trailer with the early model rubber suspension axle, which is seized. Rather than replacing it with a new rubber suspension axle, I want it to be converted to leaf springs. I will buy a leaf spring kit meeting the requirements of the trailer. I need you to remove the old axle and install the new axle. Removing the old axle is straight forward. To install the leaf springs, a steel mounting plate will be required. The steel plate needs to roughly 60mm x 900mm x 8mm. The leaf spring mounts are welded to the plate (I expect professional welds!), the plate is then bolted to the trailer frame (needs new holes drilled) with 4 high tensile M12 bolts and self locking nuts. The leaf strings and axles are then mounted to the above plate. Also, you may need to weld the brake bracket to the new axle depending if this is done already from factory or not. Of course, everything as to be straight to and aligned. I buy all the required suspension parts and hardware. You do the labour and provide a welder and whatever other tool you require to complete the job. The mounting bracket can easily be fabricated on a workbench ready for installation, before the trailer gets pulled apart. I cannot help, make sure you have a helping hand if you need one.
