Installation of a smart lock for home

Hi I have a 20 yr old VW Golf, the auto locksmith who fixed it a couple of years ago wired in another barrel next to steering column as key barrel is fine but plastic wheel lock in steering column has broken and wreckers only sell complete columns for twice the price of the car.
