What do trench digging services include?

Trenching services involve digging a large hole, usually using a trenching shovel and a trencher to help successfully lay underground wires, pipes, or structural supports. It’s also traditionally done to install or repair public drains, sewer lines, and underground utilities to serve populated areas. Trenching also has plenty of benefits if you’re taking care of your lawn! Whatever you need, Taskers can make your home improvement project possible. Here are the most common things you can expect from trenching services near you:

Straight trenches

If you live in an area with a limited surface to disturb, such as near buildings or roadways, digging straight trenches is the right choice for you. It’s a kind of trench where the sides are parallel, and the base is at a right angle. Having trench boxes or shoring is usually required as protective systems. A six-inch straight trench can also be helpful if you’re trying to control pests in your property, where you can apply a non-repellent pesticide into the soil to achieve a treatment zone.

Sloped trenches

Sloped trenches have angled sides to prevent cave-ins. Its angle is determined by trench depth, soil type, and the amount of time the trench will remain open. If you’re planning to install large pipes or culverts, this can be the right kind of trench for you. It’s also common to have sloped trenches in new construction sites with a wider path of soil.

Benched trenches

To ensure that your trench or excavation site is entirely safe, you can try benching! Benched trenches are those with sides that have been cut away to create steps. The height of these steps, otherwise known as vertical distances, is determined by the soil type. The less stable your soil is, the shallower your angles should be. It’s best to bench it if your trench needs to be up to 20 feet deep. This is to help stabilize your trench and to make it more secure. For protective systems, shielding or trench boxes are usually used.

Bell-bottom pier hole trenches

For those planning to build a certain structure, make sure to have someone dig a bell-bottom pier hole trench! The base or bottom of the trench is usually wider than the top, giving it a bell-shaped cross-section. This is typically used to install footings to support the foundation of a structure. Since these kinds of trenches have sides sloping inward over the floor of the excavation, more protective systems are usually required to keep them from collapsing.

We have a 10 metre long trench which we dig to fill with soil for planting bamboo. It now need to be backfilled with approx 2.5m3 of compost and soil (already on site) (My husband started the job but now work is too busy and he can't find time to finish) There are then 8 bamboo which need to be planted in the trench (we can do or you can) There are also 2 planter boxes to be filled with soil which will hold 1 bamboo each. Would love to have job completed next week. Photos of trench, planter boxes and soil attached.

Dig a trench around my suburban property to fill with good soil and then plant small hedge plants approx 80cm apart. I can source the plants and soil if necessary. Photos show where the hedge is to go, allowing room for where the council may one day put a walking path. Ignore the &10 budget obviously

Stepping stones through lawn and trench dug

$500

Adelaide SA, Australia

25th Apr 2021

Laying bluestone pavers/stepping stones (0.4mx0.6m) through a flat lawn to an outdoor courtyard. The length of the lawn to the courtyard is ~10.8m, each paver is 0.4m long and we are looking to alternate 0.4m of lawn between each paver i.e. 0.4m paver and then 0.4m lawn. 28 pavers to be laid in total, laying x2 wide. All materials supplied. Before the pavers are laid we also require a 500mm trench dug under where the pavers will be to run some conduit.

Unacceptable quality of work: Quite a simple job (laying stepping stones through a lawn area) however Daniel was unable to complete the job to a satisfactory standard. We had issues with the pavers (stepping stones) not being level, odd distances apart and uneven amount of base material underneath - which resulted in pavers lifting if you stepped on the wrong edge. My guess is Daniel believed this was a very easy task (albeit priced at $600 labour, which works out to 1.5 days according to Daniel’s day rate) and arrived to the job on a Friday afternoon which gave himself only half a day to finish. End result is the pavers he started on first are perfect, the ones he was working on in the dark are very poor. It’s not all negative - I can complement Daniel on his good communication and wanting to do the right thing - we settled on lowering the quote to 1/3 the original price (thank you for being flexible) and I’m in the process of arranging a professional landscape company to fix the job.
