Of all times of the year for your air conditioner to throw in the towel, ours gave up the ghost just days before Christmas. With the cricket on, family visiting and temp in the mid 30s, this was NOT the time to be without air-conditioning. We’ve got a 3-level house with a 6-year-old Samsung ducted system that has never worked particularly well. The ducted only serves part of Level 2 and two bedrooms on Level 3, with an open stairwell through the house. The current setup is very basic — Samsung controller upstairs plus a separate DAY/NIGHT zone controller — and it needs constant manual intervention. What I’m looking to do is: * add a 5 kW split system to the unserved half of Level 2 * add 2 discreet high-level transfer grilles above the Level 3 bedroom doors, right next to the main return-air grille * upgrade the ducted controls to a proper automatic zoning/thermostat system, ideally with separate temperature sensors for Levels 2 and 3, app control, scheduling and automatic zone control * assess whether the existing dampers are worth reusing or whether it makes more sense to replace them with a matched modern setup I’m not looking for someone to immediately tell me to rip out a 6-year-old ducted system and start again. I want someone who actually understands airflow, return-air paths, zoning and controls, and can make the existing plant work properly alongside the new split.

Model : Mitsubishi DXK18ZSA-W Issue: Even after turning the air conditioner completely OFF, the internal drain pump continues to run for more than 30 minutes (sometimes never stops). The fan is stopped but we can clearly hear the drain pump operating.
