Your wedding day is likely to be one of the best days of your life, but the planning for such a special occasion is notoriously stressful. Rather than turning into a bride- or groom-zilla, make the most of services like Airtasker to ease your burden.
On top of an already packed checklist, finding a marriage celebrant is a vital task that needs to be taken care of. If you choose smartly, a celebrant can make your life easier. They’ll help you with paperwork, vows and lend you their experience where they can.
To get started finding a marriage celebrant near you, simply post a job on Airtasker. Make sure to include the date of your wedding, where the venue is and what your budget is, and you’ll soon start receiving offers from registered celebrants.
A marriage or civil celebrant is vital for any non-religious wedding in Australia. These licensed practitioners play a huge part in your ceremony, as they officiate over proceedings, making sure everything goes by the book and that your marriage is legally binding.
This includes saying the names of both parties, explaining what marriage entails and covering the legal vows. On the day, they can also introduce any readings, tell any stories you want to share and oversee the signing of the wedding papers. What they include is up to you (apart from the legal requirements) and is something you organise in the months and weeks leading up to the wedding.
Throughout the planning, your celebrant can help you with paperwork, help to shape the ceremony and give you any advice you need as you gear up for the big day.
While a celebrant can certainly help to plan aspects of your ceremony, it’s unlikely that they’ll also help with decorations, the reception and the setting up of chairs. A dedicated wedding planner can take these jobs off your hands – and many more – letting you focus on more important aspects of the day.
Most celebrants will include a PA system in their package, allowing their voice to carry (and yours, when you say your vows) to everyone congregated there on your big day. However, once they leave, so too does the PA. If you want to save costs by running music through your phone or cracking on with karaoke later in the night, hiring a PA system yourself can make the difference.
Another option many civil celebrants offer is the use of a table and chairs when you have to sign your papers. While useful, the celebrant’s style might not necessarily match with yours. If you’re looking for something a bit more special, you may be able to get help from your venue or by looking into furniture rental.

Hi Kelly, We are planning a DIY wedding for a time in October this year (most likely Saturday 9 - just waiting on a few things prior to confirming with the venue). The venue will be in Rosebery NSW. We will require someone to oversee the entire day to avoid us from stressing. We would like someone with experience to coordinate and manage the following tasks on the day: 1. Set up ceremony chairs and decorations. The ceremony will start approx 3:30 pm. The venue will be available from 12:00 pm. I will be at the venue from 12:00 pm getting ready so will be able to help prior to getting make up done :) There will be only a few chairs/benches, some flowers and maybe an arbour. It will not be a huge task. 2. There is another space which joins the ceremony space to the bar space. This will require some props, shuffling of chairs post ceremony, neon signs and backdrop. This space may potentially have a Photo Booth (this will depend on budget) and require coordination with the supplier. The bar and ceremony spaces will be where guests mingle post ceremony while we take photos for an hour or so. 3. We need a celebrant to conduct the ceremony as well as lodge the paperwork. 4. Following the ceremony, we will take a few photos with guests/family then leave with the photographer for an hour or so to take couple photos. As above we will need some shuffling of the chairs from the ceremony space so guests can mingle while they wait for us to return. We will need the guests to be ushered to the reception space approx 5:30pm - which will remain closed until then. 5. Reception space: coordination and setting up of the tables, chairs, centrepieces/candles, name tags, ferry lights, cups, cutlery, table linen, decorative balloons, centre pieces, bonboneries etc - I can show you photos of what I would like and will also be at the venue to assist :) 6. Liaise with vendors on the day - catering, bar staff, DJ/band (that's all I can think of at this stage). 7. We also require an MC for the night. Not sure if this is something you do? If it is that's great! 8. Packdown of the venue by 11pm. We will hire cleaning services for rubbish removal to be completed by 12:00 am midnight.

Hi there! My partner and I are planning to get married on Friday 17/12/2021 in Melbourne. We are hoping to have a friend act as the "celebrant", and to run the ceremony, and then have a licensed celebrant onsite to take care of the legal side of things, and then lodge the paper work. Hoping there is someone that can help us out with this! Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello! My partner and I are getting married on Sunday March 7th, and looking for a celebrant to please 'legalise' our ceremony. We have a friend acting as a celebrant on the day as we wanted someone close to us to tell our story and to really personalise the experience. Just looking for someone with a celebrant licence to step in and say the sentence or two required for our marriage to be legalised. If this is affordable this is the preferred option, otherwise we will head to town hall. Thank you in advance for your help!
