I am an architect in cairns for rehab from injury and a longer break. I’m 47 yo from sydney. I met a very nice indigenous man from remote far north, 52, with whom i have struck up a friendship. He is an amazingly nice man, very kind, articulate snd insightful. I have been helping him a little, but i am shocked by what i am finding he has to go through to get basic privileges. Its a common experience for indigenous Australians. So i thought, to just capture his experiences & what is going on, on film, as a small documentary. He is trying to start fresh after drug and alcohol abuse, and i’m trying to help him. So the doco can trace his steps as he trues to rebuild his life. He’s a very sweet man, never angry with a kind heart, and is known and respected in his community. He is i sightful and is fully aware what is going on. He and I can talk quite openly about almost everything which is rare. He speaks native injinoo language as mother tongue. He has lived in fnq his whole life. There is also the backdrop of covid, and the broader social unrest in cairns at the moment. I think he would understand the idea of a film to demonstrate what is going on. If you have basic film gear and film editing skills, could be a good project for a student or person with these skills who wants to build a profile as a doco maker. We are based in central cairns. Its quite powerful when you hear it direct from him. We could agree to also visit his native country around injinoo and bamaga. He is a fisherman up there and knows bushcraft, his english speaking skills are excellent. The task price is just a small offer, its more of a pro-bono or goodwill project for your time, except i can meet production expenses as we progress (eg. Travel). I thought if you become involved now, you can catch the whole of this story that is going to play out..
