Either method works to protect your deck - choosing one over the other depends on your preference and budget.
The good old brush is best, as brushing works the stain into the wood grain and provides a deep-penetrating seal to block out moisture. Rollers are an excellent second choice when you want to work fast. Sprayers are also another option, but you have to use them at low pressure and spray close to the surface. The common drawback with rollers and sprayers is that they can’t get into hard-to-reach areas, which are no problem when using a brush.

Inspecting the deck
Your hired deck staining specialist checks the deck for any damage or imperfections. Should any sections or areas of your deck have cracks, splits or any damage, you may have to hire someone to repair it before staining. Your Tasker can also check each board and joist for wear and recommend the appropriate repairs if the damage is severe. If the deck is in good shape, they can proceed with preparing the deck for staining.
Preparing the deck
Preparing the deck includes giving it a thorough cleaning. This can consist of scraping off any dirt or debris built up in the spaces between planks and joists. Careful cleaning is necessary, so the stain completely bonds with the deck to protect it from the elements and doesn’t peel off.
They can apply a store-bought deck cleaner, then sweep the entire deck to remove any dust or debris on the walking surfaces. You can hire another service to give the deck a good washing down if sweeping isn’t enough, but you may have to allow the deck to dry for a couple of days. Some Taskers may recommend sanding down the entire deck after cleaning, but this can take more time and cost extra.

Staining the deck
