A carpenter has attended and advised that the pergola is not compliant with building codes and appears to have been installed illegally. He noted that the brackets securing the pergola to the garage are not structurally adequate to support its weight, and he was quite surprised it hasn’t collapsed already. Given the structural concerns and non-compliance, he has advised that the only safe option is to remove the pergola entirely.
