I’m looking for an experienced locksmith to replace an existing deadlatch-style lock with a deadbolt-style lock on an apartment entry door. The current lock is a double cylinder deadlatch. I’d like to replace it with a round deadbolt style lock. The motivation for the change is to remove the bulky deadlatch hardware and move to a cleaner deadbolt configuration, with the longer-term aim of installing a smart lock in the future that retrofits onto a standard deadbolt. This is an older apartment building, so I’m aware the door may not be directly compatible with a deadbolt due to factors such as existing bore holes, backset, door thickness (40mm), or door construction. I’ve included photos of the door, door edge, existing lock, and strike plate, and would appreciate suggestions on whether this conversion is feasible, what modifications (if any) would be required, and whether the result would be suitable for a future smart lock installation. Happy for the work to be done at a time / date that suits.
