We were wondering if it is possible for someone to remove the lock on our apartment mailbox and replace it with a combination lock (which we already have, so can provide). Basically, our key has stopped working for the original lock and we can no longer access our mail, which is piling up inside. I was advised by a building manager, that some people can acquire skeleton keys which open most mailbox locks in our style, but not all, and they just go around trying it on mailboxes to see which locks it will work on. Apparently, after a while, enough instances of trying to force the lock with these keys damages the inside on the lock mechanism, to the point that even the actual key can't open it anymore, either. We believe this may have been the case with our lock, as our mailboxes are street-facing on Parramatta Road, are in full view and we often see ripped-open envelopes littered around them. Other residents have replaced their locks with combination locks, so it's apparently been a problem for others in our building, too - so we are hoping someone can do this for ours, as well. We already have the replacement lock, we just need someone who can remove the old lock and replace with our new one. We can give you the original key, if needed, but we cannot open the mailbox with it anymore, though you are welcome to give it a go.
