Get Wifi working -Advanced Windows Knowledge Neede

Salisbury SA 5108, Australia

Hi! I am dependent on my laptop. Unfortunately, it is a geriatric. About seven years old. It is a Toshiba C660 Satellite Pro. It was running Windows 7 until 12 months ago. When someone else was using it, the Windows 7 partition became corrupted by really nasty viruses and I could not re-install Windows 7. You might know, Toshibas don't come with a disc but with the installation files on a separate partition. So, someone gave me a Windows 8 Disk I installed that and did a complete reformat and everything fine. I tried upgrading to windows 8.1 but it was horrendous. It just wouldn't work at all on that laptop so I went back to Windows 8. However, it was set to update automatically. About four months ago one of Windows so called important updates was actually to force the upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows `10. I started getting a message upgrade to Windows 10 now and an option to delay it. The time I could delay it kept getting shorter and shorter so I searched online and found it was because of one of the updates windows installed but to do this and this and it will remove the update. I followed the advice but the advice actually lead to Windows 10 being installed immediately. After a bit of work managing to get most things working ok with Windows 8.1 drivers, even though Toshiba says the laptop is not compatible with Windows 10. However, the wifi was problematic and I could not access the public wife hotspots at the library I frequently had to access when doing research. So I actually installed a Windows 7 Driver in compatibility mode and everything worked perfectly. The graphics driver was also crashing so did the same for that. Never a problem with that since. So, in the end, despite Toshiba saying the computer is not compatible everything worked on Windows 10. \ However, on Saturday my keyboard started playing up. If I typed x it would type a w as well. If I type w it would type x as well and was inserting a lot of characters. I thought my keyboard was faulty. I restarted the computer and had to bring up the on screen keyboard to get in as it wouldn't type the right letters. It behaved better after a restart for a while then started playing up again. I though it is probably the keyboard but maybe a reformat will work. And It did! But with one big problem. Now the wifi doesn't work. The keyboard works perfectly now. When I go into device manager and ask it to browse manually for the device driver it finds the windows7 driver but won't install it. Microsoft tech support said the driver is part of the hardware and I won't be able to find it to change the compatibility settings again. However, there must be a way to get back into that to run it for Windows 7. Unfortunately, wifi is the only way I can use the net...I have $2000 worth of jobs here to complete that need to be done over the next couple of days. The USBs are faulty and the Ethernet doesn't work. It does have Bluetooth but I don't have another computer. I know I need a new computer and with my profits I would have bought one but it just needed to last a few more days. There must be a way to access the driver the device manager is finding and change its compatibility settings. I can't find it by searching for Broadcom which is the wireless card maker. I need someone to post a solution here that I can follow. I am pretty cluey with Windows but post a step by step solution. The first person with a sensible solution will be awarded the task. As I have no way to give you access to the computer remotely I will follow your directions. Please post your directions here. I don't want to waste time by awarding this to someone who does not know what they are doing. I am at the library computer and have that for 1 more hour. In that time I need a solution. Please post it here. First solution that I can follow will get the task Chris
