Exterior inspection
The outside of a car is a good indication of how well the car has been looked after. Panel damage or evidence of repaired damage could indicate the car has been in a serious accident. Looking for a qualified mechanic with a high-end diagnostic scanner and a coolant pressure tester to inspect a Mazda 3 (2.2L Skyactiv-D Diesel) with ~160,000km. The car recently experienced a brief heat seizure while driving. It entered Limp Mode, lost power, and was towed. It now starts, but it is "guzzling" water from the radiator rapidly.
