Due to the lack of street lighting, no visible workers or active construction, and my navigation app indicating an 80 km/h speed limit, I did not notice the temporary roadwork speed sign. I was detected at 74 km/h in what was designated as a temporary 40 km/h construction zone. The police recorded the offence as “over 20 km/h” during a double demerit period. The penalty is $592 and 8 demerit points, which would leave me with only 1 point remaining on my licence. My prior driving history includes a last offence in March 2024. The offence was reduced by police from “over 30 km/h” to “over 20 km/h.” I currently do not have a court date or location.
