Top Engagement Photographer related questions
Look for event experience, not just couple portraits. Ask to see a full gallery from a party they’ve photographed, and check how they handle low light and flash, candid shots of guests, speeches and group photos.
Agree the hours of coverage and a short list of must-have shots (family groups, the cake, the speeches), and ask how many edited photos you’ll get and when. If your venue has rules on flash or where photographers can stand, let them know in advance.
It depends mainly on the hours of coverage, how many edited photos you want, whether you need prints or an album, and travel to your venue. A couple of hours covering speeches and group shots costs less than coverage for the whole party.
Post your task with the date, venue, guest numbers and hours, and compare offers from photographers near you. For more on engagement shoot pricing, see our engagement photographer cost guide.
What do engagement photography services include?
Airtasker’s engagement photography service usually includes a timed session, a set number of locations and outfits, post-processing, editing, and the final output (prints or files). Photographers typically meet their clients before the shoot to discuss the concept or theme as well.
Here’s what you can expect when you hire an engagement or engagement party photographer on Airtasker:
Pre-wedding shoot
Engagement photographers typically package according to the number of shooting hours and the number of final photos. This can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 3 hours. Your photographer usually takes both candid and posed shots of you and your loved one, depending on the theme or concept for your shoot.Â
While photographers prefer to shoot during the daytime to make the most of natural light, this may vary depending on your location and concept. Kindly discuss with your photographer beforehand to determine the best time for your photo shoot. To be on the safe side, block out the whole morning or afternoon to make room for travel time, outfit changes, or multiple locations.
Multiple outfits and location planning
Engagement and wedding photography concepts sometimes involve several outfits and venues. This service can help tell your story as a couple, such as a school you both went to or the park where you proposed. You can even add a studio shoot on top of these location shoots. Your engagement photographer will be happy to discuss these details with you and help you achieve your desired concept. Do note that these changes may result in an extended session and affect the quotes you will receive.Â
Photo editing and retouching
After the shoot, your engagement photographer proceeds to edit or retouch your photos. The package usually includes fixing blemishes, converting photos to black and white, or achieving the look and feel that you want. If you’d like more advanced retouching or photo manipulation, mention it in your task post so photographers can include it in their offers.
Delivery of final prints or files
Once your photos are edited, you’ll receive the final images. Though the process may vary from Tasker to Tasker, you can ask for a digital album as well as printed photographs. At this stage, you’ll want to ask the photographer for files that can be used for your save the date cards, teaser video, and other related materials. You may even decide to get the same photographer for your wedding photography to achieve a consistent look. Or, you can check out the different kinds of wedding services here on Airtasker.
Engagement party photography vs a proposal photoshoot
These are different jobs, so it helps to know which one you’re booking.
A proposal photoshoot captures the moment of the question itself. The photographer stays hidden or blends in, and the timing is agreed in advance, often with a signal from the person proposing. It’s usually short, and it depends on planning the spot, the light and the angle so the reaction is caught clearly.
An engagement shoot is a planned couple session after the proposal, often at a meaningful location and around golden hour, and often used for save-the-dates.
Engagement party photography is event coverage. Your engagement party photographer captures guests arriving, speeches, the cake, decorations and candid moments, plus group photos with family and friends. Parties are often indoors or at night, so look for someone confident with flash and low light who can work a room without interrupting it.

Williamstown VIC, Australia
26th Aug 2025
Hi, I’m planning to propose and am looking to organise for a discreet photographer to be around for when I turn up with my girlfriend at a particular location. Without being too obvious, I’m hoping you can keep an eye on us for when I drop down to pop the question so you can capture the moment. I’ll set a time and would need you for maybe an hour or so at that time. Happy to discuss further via phone.
