I’ve got a 2013 Nissan Patrol with the ZD30 CRD engine. I’m hearing a deep knocking noise from the bottom end, and I’ve been told the engine block may be damaged. It sounds like something internal — possibly a bearing or a rod. I’m trying to figure out whether it’s going to be cheaper and more reliable to rebuild the engine or just replace it outright. What do you reckon — is it worth rebuilding, or should I be looking for a reconditioned or used motor? Also, do you know roughly what either option would cost all up with labour?
