2008 Toyota Prado 120 Series — Electrical fault following head unit installation During an attempted head unit installation without disconnecting the negative battery terminal, the following circuits stopped working simultaneously: radio, dashboard clock, and passenger front and rear windows from the driver’s switch. What was tested Interior fuse box — all checked and intact: RADIO NO.1 (15), RADIO NO.2 (16), ECU-B NO.2 (17), ACC (47 — 7.5A), IG1 (40), ECU-IG, POWER, and several others. Engine bay fuse box — all checked and intact: all four 50A fuses, ALT-S, and engine bay radio fuses. All blue relays in the engine bay fuse box were swapped with each other — no change. Multimeter test: Voltage measured directly at the main radio connector with key on ACC: 0V. Main battery reads 12.3V at rest and 14V with engine running — alternator is fine. Two different head units were tested, neither powers on. Conclusion: 12V is not reaching the radio connector. The fault is clearly upstream of the radio itself — likely an ACC relay or a high-capacity fuse that cannot be identified without a full Toyota wiring diagram. The simultaneous failure of the radio, clock, and passenger windows points to a common upstream supply fault affecting multiple circuits at once.

Auto Electrician required: I had a push start button installed in my older Toyota Land Cruiser 100 Series and has been connected for approximately 2 - 3 years, but has now stopped working. It seems that it is no longer communicating with the cars inbuilt immobiliser. I had NRMA disconnect it so I could temporarily use my old key. The push button is now just hanging out, and still connected to the car's navigation/stereo/etc screen, which is an Android system that also powers my air con, but even that is intermittent. I’ve also had issues where the engine occasionally won’t turn off, so I’ve had to disconnect both batteries to shut the engine off. For now, I simply need the start button disconnected if it no longer works, or re-connected if it’s ok. Whatever is the easiest temporary solution before I travel on Saturday for a fortnight, and then have my usual (busy) Auto Electrician look at it further on my return.
